Good local German themed restaurant

A good place to go for German food or a fish fry! Authentic German atmosphere and meals if that is what you are looking for. The family owned restaurant(s) have been around the area for a long time. Service is good and prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get! Ample parking on site.

I Love the Gasthaus! They have THE BEST fish fry ever! I Love the broiled fish and my husband loves the fried fish. You can only get it on Fridays but it is sooo worth it! The atmosphere is also wonderful their.

Fairly typical German restaurant. Has some options other than traditional German fare, but our group went mainly German dishes. I had pork shank, which I'll admit is a hit-or-miss dish. It was a miss this time, as it was quite dry. Good atmosphere, everything else is just average.

It was last Saturday night and we were hungry. We were staying at a nearby hotel and had made the decision to brave the cold and try this restaurant. Unfortunately when we got into the parking lot, we could not tell if it was really open. There were a few cars in the lot, but we drove around to the... More

I've been dining at The Gasthaus almost every April for the nearly the past decade as part of a professional society board recognition dinner. That festivity features 3 or 4 entrees off the menu and I have been selecting the safe and savory filet mignon. A few earlier selections covered a German entrée, which disappointed. Lucky to get a $50... More

Good German food. Visited with aunt on the Thursday prior to Christmas for dinner. the restaurant fills quickly for dinner and so pleased we arrived early in the evening. the building and the staff both have character. The platter is a good option. The servings and the prices are somewhat out of proportion. Smaller servings and prices would be a... More

We arrived at 5 PM on a Friday and a line was already forming out the door. We heard various people saying that they were moved to the bar because their parties won't be seated until all persons arrive, which is fair enough, since the tables would soon be packed. We elected to eat at the bar (not allowed at... More

Excellent fine dining at reasonable prices. Great food, service, etc. A definite must repeat. Sauerbraten and Rouladen are musts.

Living in Chicago, I am probably spoiled by the abundant opportunities to eat good German food, but the Gasthaus website and reviews promised to be enjoyable. Well, I do not think it was very authentic, and do not trust any German restaurant that does not even offer potato pancakes. What made the average food less tolerable was the EXTREMELY SLOW... More

We came to the Gasthaus for a nice dinner before an evening meeting. The Weissgerber Restaurants have been family favorites since the opening of the Golden Mast about 50 years ago, and we have never had a problem with the German Food until this time. We ordered BEEF ROULADEN (Beef rolls filled with haus stuffing, served with red cabbage &... More
