The name is funny...the service and food Great! On the way to Escanaba MI, we stopped at the Thorpedo for a quick lunch. My companion had the Patty Melt, on marble rye, with lots of onions (onions make any meal great!). It was a fresh and satisfying sandwich. My choice was the Strawberry Short cake. The size of this treat... More

We were traveling across the state of WI on Hwy. 29, so before we left we searched online for a couple of options for restaurants. This one seemed to have good reviews, so we tried it and it was exactly as described. Very clean, good food, great home made soup and reasonable priced. It just has the feel of mid-western... More

We get back and forth to the Twin Cities quite often and many times plan our trip to be in Thorpe, WI, near a meal time. The Thorpedo Restaurant is your quintessential family owned highway restaurant. No, it is not a greasy spoon but, a great little restaurant. On our way through we have many times had the great, varied... More

If you are looking for a non fast food restaurant to stop at about half way between the Twin Cities in MN and Green Bay, WI, this would be a good choice. The food here is pretty good. They have an interesting "twist" in that most meals come with a cup of home made soup as the default side in... More

The Thorpedo Restaurant is a nice clean Restaurant along HWY 29 between Eau Claire and Wausau, WI. It has been there ever since I was young and we always went there because it was open 24 hrs in the past. Now it has changed a bid, was remodeled nicely and still serves great food for a reasonable price! The breakfasts... More

We've eaten here several times. They offer fairly good food. Another reviewer called it a "roadside greasy spoon family restaurant" and that is an accurate way to describe it. There's nothing outstanding about the food, but it is usually pretty good. Occasionally I've run into something that was very bland or way too salty. The service is not stellar and... More

Great atmosphere, Great food, Great service, and Great prices...... I believe this should get my point across! Thorpedos is a hometown restaurant at its finest. A long established reputation of outstanding food and service is well deserved. If you are every traveling in western Wisconsin be sure to stop!

Having grown up in central Wisconsin during the 50's and 60's, this ex-restaurant critic in the central mid-west, has hoped for a wonderful, old fashioned fish fry in WI. Yes there are some that are passable: Kegel's in Milwaukee, Butterfly near Beloit, Gullivers in Wausau, etc., etc. But even the best of them fail to produce what a great fish... More
