Description: Located in downtown Sturgeon Bay on Historic Third Avenue in beautiful Door County, Wisconsin. Choose to dine at the bar, at a bistro table along the sidewalk or relax on a cushioned chair in the cozy wood floor dining room. Large photos focusing on the history of Sturgeon Bay pepper the restaurant. The new chef has a strong bent on creativity and local sourcing. His philosophy for features is "Familiar enough to be comfortable but exotic enough to be exciting." The focus is on local and fresh (organic features, and appetizers, in season) is apparent, and when blended with the passion of the staff, it is becoming a foodie destination. We will work with any and all dietary restrictions or food allergies. Ask about "Chefs Choice" options. Call for reservations or a chef consultation for that special occasion.

This place had great soup (butternut squash). The flatbread bbq chicken was great as well! We went during the week, so it wasn't very busy. I'm sure on the weekends it is much busier and noisy. The staff was friendly, but could've been a little more attentive.

On one of the wettest weekends in Sturgeon Bay's history (3.0 inches), finally had lunch at John Martin's with a group of five. Am I glad we did. Menu has great Italian-American choices presented in contemporary treatments. Lite fare yet substantial on some items. Probably more Northern Italian or Northern California Italian. They make flat bread pizzas of all sorts.... More

Honestly, My husband and I ended up here when we couldn't get into another restaurant and I knew they had a pretty good rating on trip advisor so we called and they got us in at the last minute. The service was great and the food was very good, especailly the arancini on the appetizer menu. We also learned that... More

After a long day of shopping and walking around Door County, my husband and I decided to try John Martin's out for a late dinner. When we walked in it was crowded but not packed. There were several open tables and at least 3 servers which was a lot as the place is not very big. The owner I believe... More

We had the fig salad (yum) and peppercorn steak and whitefish and all were very good. We were pleased with our wine choices. Loved the velvet devil! And dessert and coffee rounded things out (including our bellies). Portion sizes were very appropriate. Definitely suggest this restaurant.

I just recently moved up to Sturgeon Bay. This was my first restaurant that I ate at when I moved up here, and found it addicting and delicious! I would definitely go back and enjoy many many meals there. The service is superb! I had the meatloaf with cherry glaze! If you like cherries and you like meatloaf, you will... More

We were staying at the nearby Holiday Music Motel, and wanted a close restaurant we could walk to for dinner. We wanted some pasta to load up for the next day's Door County Century Ride, so we started walking up and down 3rd Avenue. Trattoria Dal Santo had a 1 hour wait, and the Inn at Cedar Crossing had a... More

This is our first visit to Door Peninsula, and we decided to stop at the Door County Visitor and Convention Bureau on our way into Sturgeon Bay. A gentleman came in, conducted some business at the window, and as he was leaving, told us if we were looking for a good place to have dinner to try John Martin's. He... More

We had dinner here. The staff here is very friendly and are obviously proud of the place where they work. They give good food and wine recommendations. We absolutely loved the flatbread pizza! We ordered the fig prosciutto to share as an appetizer, yum! Our dinners were very nice, but that flatbread pizza was our favorite part of the meal!... More

We hadn't read any reviews before going. We weren't sure what to it expect based on the outside of the building. Inside the decor was great and everything was extremely clean. We were there at about 3pm on a Thursday so it was not at all busy. We had great service and the food was delicious.
