Located in downtown Sturgeon Bay on Historic Third Avenue in beautiful Door County, Wisconsin. Choose to dine at the bar, at a bistro table along the sidewalk or relax on a cushioned chair in the cozy wood floor dining room. Large photos focusing on the history of Sturgeon Bay pepper the restaurant. The new chef has a strong bent on creativity and local sourcing. His philosophy for features is "Familiar enough to be comfortable but exotic enough to be exciting." The focus is on local and fresh (organic features, and appetizers, in season) is apparent, and when blended with the passion of the staff, it is becoming a foodie destination. We will work with any and all dietary restrictions or food allergies. Ask about "Chefs Choice" options. Call for reservations or a chef consultation for that special occasion.

Good Food

We live near by and had never gone to John Martin's and decided to give it a try. The food was really good and the wait staff excellent. I had the meatloaf bomb and it was excellent and my husband had the steak and he said it was very tasty. To full for dessert but each took a piece home... read more

Good food and service was fun and friendly. Could improve atmosphere. The ribs were delicious. The bacon meatloaf was great. Food is slightly too salty though. Was thirsty later.

Not a very fancy restaurant, more like a neighborhood bar serving food. Orders got screwed up and took a long time to get food. Very apologetic and discounted dinners.

The only reason this place is getting a 2 is because of the food. It's amazing. It's homemade Italian that tastes fresh and looks great. My husband and I found John Martins last year when we were in Door County (staying down the street) and had amazing service and connected with the owner (from our hometown!). Because of this -... What a great experience! I love this place, they always have award winning chefs, great service and staff and I look forward to "Big John" sitting at the bar to visit with. I LOVE the way they make their lamb...Mmmmm! Salads, soups and desserts are homemade and original. So nice to go somewhere where you don't just get "resturant food"!!... More

It was a Sunday night and there was not many restaurants open so we tried John Martin's even after seeing some of the disappointing reviews on TA. Those reviews turned out to be on mark. This is a bar with a few tables spread around. Their menu seems to have selections beyond what you would expect in most bars but... More

Being a Local to Door County I must say that I frequent the area but also enjoy traveling to out of town Restaurants to find best of the best. The first time I walked into John Martin's I was promptly greeted by a busy, but Friendly and Customer-oriented staff! A must try! Even down to the salad dressings, everything was... More

The breakfast here was outstanding! It was very reasonably priced and the food was mouth watering delicious! It's our new favorite place in Sturgeon Bay. The atmosphere was delightful, service was wonderful and they feature an enticing menu. Can't wait to go back and try some of the other breakfast menu options (they all looked so good) and also give... More

It was our first time here, and we thought it would just be a small bar, but were delighted at the type of fare they served. We had a superb steak with blue cheese and portabello mushrooms! It took a bit longer to be served than usual but it was definitely worth the wait. The paint, fixtures, tables and chairs... More

The food was overpriced, but that was not the problem. The food was the problem. The service was good as well as attentive.
