Touristy? Yes. Homemade goodness? Yes. We love going to Al Johnson’s for a late breakfast during our off-season visits to Door County. Swedish pancakes with a side of Swedish meatballs or the meatballs entrée are always just want we need during the cold fall/winter mornings in Sister Bay. Coffee is delicious and topped off by attentive staff with varying Scandinavian... More

If you are in Door Co., a stop at Al Johnson's in Sister Bay to see the goats on the sod-filled roof should be on your list of things to do! From what I understand, the goats are only up on the roof during the day in Spring and Summer. If you can't make it to see them live in-person,... More

Service was quick and professional. The food was excellent. The cole slaw was the best we've ever had. Portions were of nice size. It was quite enjoyable to see the goats on the roof.

We took our boys (under 11) here for breakfast. Our waitress was Swedish and super sweet. The Swedish pancakes were such a delicious treat - even had strawberries on top. The restaurant is an older Swedish/Scandinavian decor, but very clean and inviting. It is always busy from breakfast to dinner so plan to have a small wait. It's worth it.... More

We (two adults and 4 tweens and teens) had lunch on a blustery Halloween afternoon. The hot apple cider was a delicious start to our meal. The two younger kids ordered standard kid food, cheeseburgers and french fries. The two older kids ordered breakfast, which is available all day. The French Toast was made of thin bread and served with... More

I had my heart set on an omelette but am glad they didnt have them because then I tried the amazing Swedish pancakes with cherries! Too windy for the goats to be out and about, but that was more than okay. My husband had the pancakes with Swedish meatballs and described them as pretty good. I generally don't like meatballs... As a favorite tourist spot in the area, we always have to visit Al Johnson's. We went twice during our visit, and (Surprise!) had the Swedish pancakes both times. They are the best pancakes you will get anywhere ... ever. They have a very international staff, which makes for a wonderful, interesting experience. We were lucky and saw the goats... More

This is the place with a sod room and goats on the room to "mow the grass". They even have a goat-cam! There is usually a wait to dine here, but it's well worth the wait. The Butik offers Swedish clothing, books, CDs, jewelry, etc.

Our visit here was a wonderful combination of enjoying the amazingly cute goats on the grass roof, browsing in their "butik" store, and a lovely dinner in the restaurant. The ambiance is charming, with the Scandinavian log style and the traditional dress of the staff. They had a video playing with the history of the restaurant which was entertaining and... More

The architecture of this restaurant transports you to Sweden, and the goats on the roof capture everyone's attention! The menu contains both Swedish foods as well as American. The Swedish meatballs are delectable. An assortment of Swedish breads and jams are served while you wait for your food - try the lingonberry anything on the menu and your tummy will... More
