Grass on the roof for Sweedish atmosphere

Make a reservation, because there is always a line. They used to have goats grazing on the grass on the roof, but this year we went too early for grazing. Food is delicious, Sweedish emphasis.

The good news first. Great wait staff and one of the few places in the Door that's open before 7:30. It's a big place and always busy after 10:30. But the food is average and you can do better with the Swedish meatballs at IKEA. And the goats on the roof. Well, if you've seen one goat, you've seen them... More

First trip - won't be our last! The Swedish pancakes were melt-in-your-mouth delicious. I swear my dear Nanny was in the kitchen making them for me!!

The variety of the menu, the decor and the staff in Scandinavian attire make it an "experience" rather than just a meal. You have to try the Swedish pancakes and meatballs! Great service. Tables are close but comfortable. There is usually a wait (30 minutes) during breakfast and lunch hours but the staff are friendly and well trained and make... More

My husband and I ate at Al Johnsons today (and had 10 teenagers with us). We were visiting Door County for the 30th annual Polar Bear Swim in Jacksonport. We've eaten at Al Johnsons many, many times over the past 25 years. Our family favorite are the perch, lingonberries and Swedish pancakes (with strawberry sauce)... and of course the hot... More

We went for breakfast and were delighted by the Swedish pancakes. Our waitress was dressed in Scandinavian attire and provided excellent service. The gift shop was wonderful and provided us with all sorts of food, clothing and home treasures. Thanks for a wonderful experience.

Late season driving trek through Door County and came upon Al Johnson's - one of the few places open off-season. Very unique restaurant with excellent food and service along with a one of a kind gift shop. Bonus: goats graze on the sodded grass roof... This place is legendary so stop in.

Good food, unique spot, reasonable prices. During the tourist season, be prepared to wait. Open all year round but short hours in the off season. A delightful spot for tourists, a comfortable homey place for locals. Swedish style foods a specialty - everyone loves the pancakes and ligonberries. Everyone loves the goats on the roof too!

Well, with great expectation we just visited Al Johnson's on 11-17-15 during a Trip to Green Bay. Here's how we feel, Food-Cold, Swedish Pancakes are more like tortillas and defiantly not good for soaking up egg yolks! Ever tried to eat a wet tortilla? Swedish meatballs, tasteless and dry. Service, fair. Coffee-WEAK Dave from Ocoee
