Huge reputation and destination and for good reason. Authentic swedish everything, and yes.. right down to the goats on the roof! The family restaurant has been in business a long time and they know how to do it. I'm a pancake "connoisseur" and love Swedish pancakes. However, I have trouble rating these with high marks. Too bad because they serve... More

otherwise known as “Al Johnson’s” or “Goats on the Roof” (because they keep goats on the roof in warm weather– no kidding), is a MUST DO when in Door County. When I used to come here as a kid, I SO looked forward to these breakfasts. Al Johnson’s seemed magical, like stepping into a travel portal that took us immediately... More

The Swedish pancakes are yummy here, especially topped with Door County cherries and whipped cream. Not a fan of the coffee, though.

I have made quiet a few trips to Sister Bay, Wisconsin. Door County and it's little towns I consider to be some of the best vacationing spots of the Midwest. This restaurant is popularly known for it's goats that roam about on top of a sod planted rooftop and in the back parking lot, there' a bit of photo-opportunities with... More

No goats on the roof in the winter, but still good Swedish pancakes (crepes to most folks) and we like the old log building. Having the wait staff in costume is a very nice touch as well. Spouse had the coffee cake and it was very good. We enjoyed "shopping" in the attached store after breakfast as well. The coffee... More

Live goats on the roof...that alone makes it worth stopping by. My family and I vacation in Door County every summer and we always stop at Al Johnson's. The kids love the live goats (the roof of the restaurant is grassed so the goats are well-fed) and the menu is very family friendly. There is nothing fancy about this restaurant...it... More

Sure Al's is a bit "kitschy", even without the goats in winter, but if you want a nice hearty breakfast, with generous portions, this would be the place for you. If you are supposed to hold back on carbs, and you know you are about to order Swedish Pancakes I don't think you are supposed to order coffee cake as... More

Good if you like big breakfasts. Otherwise the food is so so. Goats on the roof and Scandinavian outfits are appealing, but it doesn't translate to outstanding food.

Very efficient service; scenic setting; good food. We always bring out-of-town visitors here and it's always a pleasure. Families with young children are treated very nicely.
