We enjoy a good tenderloin or prime rib when we dine out: Shady Sue's is by far the best! We travel and hour and a half round trip just to eat there! Be sure to make reservations as they do get very busy. My husband is a rather large guy, so for him to leave a restaurant full is quite... More

On a tip from Sheraton Madison desk clerk, stopped here on way north for dinner pan-fried walleye. Nice sized portion, lightly pan-fried, fairly priced. Ordered the twice-baked potato (a rare item in a restaurant). Their drink menu has Golden Cadillacs and Pink Squirrels...I used to make those many years ago. Blast from the past. Locals place. Friendly, quick service. Would... More

My husband's family has been frequenting this restaurant-then known as South 17-since the 1940s. It is a typical supper club set-up: horseshoe bar surrounded by about eight tables. In the summer you can dine in the Sugar Shack, a screened in gazebo a few steps from the restaurant. The chef is the owner, so you can count on excellent pan-fried... More

Wonderful small restaurant. Bartender knows how to make a good drink. But the real treat... Roasted garlic filled tenderloin steak with twice baked potatoes. Wonderful meal in an excellent north woods restaurant.

We visited Shady Sue's on a chilly Tuesday night in December. It was quiet and we were thankful as it gave us a chance to chat with the friendly bartender and people around us. Everyone was very friendly and warm - very easy to start up a conversation at the bar! The atmosphere was perfect for a below-zero evening -... More

I visited Shady Sue's with a group of people on a Saturday night in October. The restaurant is very tiny; the horseshoe shaped bar takes up much of the room and there are tables around the outside of the bar. The decor was typical supper club style and the clientele seemed to be mostly older people. While we waited for... More

Went for fishfry on a Friday nite. It was ok. Small portions and not bottomless like many places in Northwoods. The bread that was served however was OUTSTANDING. Hot, thick, crusty with caroway seeds. The Creme Brule for desert was also outstanding. The clam chowder was average..not much clam. If it had not been for the bread, I would have... More

Shady Sue's continues to deliver good food, a creative menu and great drinks for a very resonable price. Tips: Make Reservations if possible - the venue is small and there really isn't any place to wait for a table. Desserts - They are great, but be sure to ask the price because desert prices are not printed on the desert... More
