Ambience was pleasant--Northwoods feel with plenty of knotty pine. We began with a huge bowl of iceberg lettuce that our group shared. Iceberg lettuce is good with thick dressings but the three we were given were thin and not memorable at all. All meats and fish are charcoal broiled. My chicken was a little dry. The other members of our... More

We came here during a family weekend with our daughter who is attending college in the UP. It was a Saturday night and things were pretty busy. We waited in the bar area for about 30 minutes, as dinners filtered out to the dining area, we were able to get some seats at the bar and enjoy a cocktail. When... More

Surly hostess & a donkey's behind of a bartender (bartender asked my friend to define what craft beer is). Perhaps this might be ok somewhere else but is unacceptable in N Wisconsin where I've been dining for 40 years and rarely if ever have run into surly. Ok, so perhaps I'm being nitpicky on service or it was an off... More

I came here on a date with my husband, it was a busy night service wasn't slow but food was. The delicious wine kept our mind off the wait on the food, although the nagging costumers sitting near by complaining about the wait didn't. Over all it one of my favorite places to eat when I'm up north. Any steak... More

Lived near by for many years always heard every one talk great about the place. Sorry we finally tried it. Waitstaff wasn't overall friendly. She wasn't mean but just seemed like she didn't want to be there and we where an inconvenience. My 5 yr old daughters steak came to the table rare sent it back twice. Wife's steak was... More

This restaurant is a long standing Northwoods tradition. I have eaten here since the 1970's. What I love about it is the menu hasn't changed much. If it isn't broke don't fix it. You won't find fried foods here. The menu is simple. Salad, your only option is your choice of salad dressings, all home made. They put a bowl... More

It has been many years since I visited the White Stag Inn and my delicious memories remained intact after our most recent visit. Warning - if you are looking for a fancy, city-style steakhouse, look elsewhere. The beauty of the White Stag is that it remains what it always has been, delicious food- friendly staff and unpretentious. For the reviewer... More

Everyone who goes to this neck of the woods has an opinion about the White Stag, now I have one. The most unfriendly host ever, this past Wednesday around 6pm. She told me to seat my group at the "table I picked out".... she was mad I asked for a table by the window I guess. The whole experience didn't... More

This is a simple old-fashioned steakhouse, the steaks are wonderful and the menu is quite simple. Come hungry the portions are large and the iceberg wedge with the homemade house dressings are a nice start. Definitely start out at the bar with an old-fashioned, you won't be disappointed!
