Northwoods tradition

Family run for three generations. It is so endearing to have a restaurant and its food remain exactly the same. The only thing that has changed is that they now have a printed menu rather than it being verbally recited. The chef in his tall hat still prepares your food over the open flame fire pit... read more

If you like salad and baked potato, this is the place to go, if you want a GOOD steak, this is not the place to go. I had a filet which was so chewy and tuff and my husband had the ribeye that was also tuff and chewy, in one word, terrible. Will not go back, we have dined there... More

The restaurant has that North woods rustic feel to it. Its very relaxing. The food is excellent, not a lot of choices, but doesn't need to be. The service was slow but friendly.

The steaks, salads, and potatoes were as good as ever on our yearly visit, but we were disappointed that we could not have separate tickets ( there were only 4 of us we were told she would separate them for us on the ticket but did not . The restaurant's best feature is the open grill in the main dining... More

was staying in Eagle River and this was recommended by a person we spoke with. I was a little concerned because of other trip advisor reviews. The food was ok but as some others have said temperatures in food items not correct. The service is friendly by servers but not worth the price that is charged. Not sure about other... More

Our family had been patronizing the White Stag for at least 30 years. When the older generation was running it, we could not say enough great things about it. After a extremely unpleasant visit a few years ago in which we were treated disrespectfully by a male that we were told was one of the present owners we foolishly gave... More

The steaks, salads, and potatoes were as good as ever on our yearly visit, but we were disappointed by where we were seated. The restaurant's best feature is the open grill in the main dining room. Despite arriving at the restaurant as it opened, we were seated in a rear dining room. We felt ignored and should have asked for... More

Ambience was pleasant--Northwoods feel with plenty of knotty pine. We began with a huge bowl of iceberg lettuce that our group shared. Iceberg lettuce is good with thick dressings but the three we were given were thin and not memorable at all. All meats and fish are charcoal broiled. My chicken was a little dry. The other members of our... More

We came here during a family weekend with our daughter who is attending college in the UP. It was a Saturday night and things were pretty busy. We waited in the bar area for about 30 minutes, as dinners filtered out to the dining area, we were able to get some seats at the bar and enjoy a cocktail. When... More

Surly hostess & a donkey's behind of a bartender (bartender asked my friend to define what craft beer is). Perhaps this might be ok somewhere else but is unacceptable in N Wisconsin where I've been dining for 40 years and rarely if ever have run into surly. Ok, so perhaps I'm being nitpicky on service or it was an off... More
