Great Northwoods Supper Club

The Al-Gen has been a staple in Rhinelander forever, yet my husband and I and friends had never heard of it even though we've all been up here forever as well. We purposely went out of season because we heard the crowds were unbelievable. We arrived at 5:00 on a Saturday and were the only ones... read more

We have eaten at Al-Gen's Dinner Club twice in the last year and all I can say is, "who didn't tell me about this place before?" Very nice Friday fish fry and excellent prime rib with all the trimmings, soup, salad, homemade bread basket and bread stick basket with a scoop of cheese. You will not go hungry here. The... More

My boyfriend and I spent several months trying out new places on Friday nights for their fish fry trying to determine where the best place to go is. The Al Gen was my favorite hands down! It is served Family Style and you get a nice variety of sides along with crisp, tasty fish. Sometimes there is a wait because... More

ate here with family for the chicken brunch. The chicken was very good and the service was good as well. My brother ordered ribs from the menu and I had a bite of those as well. Those I was not impressed with, they were good, but a little pricey for a half rack. I noticed other menu items were a... More

We were tired and hungry after a long day of motorcycle riding during the MDA Fall Ride around Tomahawk, WI. We were told that we would get a good meal at the Al Gen Supper Club in Rhinelander, so we stopped on a Saturday night. We were seated right away in a cute dining room that reminded me of a... More

Loved the log cabin decor. Went there for my birthday and it was our first time there. My husband had a burger and I had fish. Good was great. Service was a tad slow.

Al Gen's is legendary in the Rhinelander area. Friday night fish fry and Sunday night chicken is where it's at. Sunday tends to be less chaotic but the dining room will fill up fast. We enjoy the consistent staff, great bartenders, and the throw back uniforms the waitresses wear. Food quality is very good, we suggest you dine early or... More

A wonderful pre funeral dinner, outstanding atmosphere, food, service! If we're again in the area, wouldn't hesitate to return, perhaps take more pictures, different from those submitted previously. ..including the Elvis Presley shrine!

Wow- only the Turkey was "real"- almost everything else was from a can- really bad deal. Reservations needed, but I bet Fire Department would have shut down bases on how many tables were crammed together. No room to move to get to "buffet" and a huge disappointment when you got there. Nearly cold food and I could have opened cans... More

Long-time favorite among locals and summertime tourists, especially the Friday fish fry, which was why we went. Fry itself is good, not great, with my choice (walleye) being too crusty and the fries too soft and chewy; potato pancakes were a treat -- and I scarfed down two; potato salad too sweet. Odd selection of beer, with no Leinenkugel Original... More
