La Merenda is the top of the tapas in Milwaukee. What's unique here is that they are no just Spanish but rather international. You never know what you'll find on the menu because it changes often but you can be sure it is excellent no matter what is being served.

I've been around the culinary block, being a cook through college and married to a woman with a culinary arts degree from a well respected program, so I think I have a decent handle on what is good dining. Well, La Merenda is one of those rare places that is always great. Get anything withh their mole, get the stroganoff,... More

My first of many visits to La Merenda. My friends advised that you usually need reservations because this restaurant is so popular. They had just opened their patio seating for spring and given the number of people there on a Saturday nite the service and timeliness of the food preparation was quite good. Our server was very friendly and helpful... More

I hosted a birthday dinner for 7 two weeks ago. Everyone enjoyed a large selection of small plates and two excellent, but expensive, bottles of red wine. We especially liked the Argentinian beef, twice!, the crepes, Empanadas, tostadas and mushroom tacos. Our service was excellent. The food came-out very fast though we were not at all rushed on a busy... More

Between La Merenda and The Noble, I'm never sure which is my favorite Milwaukee restaurant. I've been here countless times and never have been disappointed. The Argentenian beef is always a favorite as well as whatever they are offering on special, I've learned that's always the most fun offering. Pricing I would estimate typically in the 70+ range for two... More

We were lucky enough to be served by Steven. He knew about every dish on the menu and was very helpful in helping us navigate the many dishes. This is small plate dining, and most of plates will serve 3-4 people. If you go on Monday night wine by the bottle is only 1/2 price!

La Merenda is not your typical restaurant. It’s affordable yet sophisticated international cuisine for the discerning palate. That could explain some of the not so flattering reviews. It’s not your ordinary kind of place either. From the outside, it resembles a warehouse or perhaps a factory, with hardly any windows and without a fancy facade. Yet, the interior is very... More

Met up with a friend who has been here many times. Glad we went with her choice. The dining room filled quickly so we decided just to sit at the bar, chat and share some food. It wasn't crowded, so that was probably the best way to do it with two. The bartender was helpful and service was good. Dishes... More

If I had to rate this for any other than the food it would have been a two star. It's not the waitstaff's fault, but the immediate seating of so many at opening caused our small plates to be delivered in a random order and often a longer than usual wait in-between deliveries. I believe the kitchen was overwhelmed...maybe they... More
