Beautiful, warm, inviting old world atmosphere. Obvious classic German menu, but some surprising items as well. In fact, I think that a few of their vegetarian dishes are some of the best I have ever enjoyed anywhere! So relaxing. A perfect place for a delicious family or business dinner, along with a brandy old-fashion or stein of cold beer. Cozy... More

We went to Milwaukee to visit the Spice House as we were looking for Hickory Smoked salt. Next door was Mader's, so we decided to go to lunch, since we like German cuisine. We were very pleasantly surprised at the excellent service, the quality food and the ability to take the streudel home and bake it ourselves, as we had... More

Wanting a real Milwaukee experience, I drug my sister out of our comfy hotel into the bitter cold and windy night to go eat some German food. Perhaps if she knew that JFK dined at Mader's German cuisine, around since 1902, she would've been more excited. It seems like a kind of cheesy place, with the waitresses dressed in German... More

Our drive in to Milwaukee on December 27 started off poorly - the first two attractions we went to were closed, we couldn't take our exit due to construction and ended up 20 minutes out of our way, and we had trouble finding parking. We were cold, hungry, and frustrated, and decided to pop into Mader's for a snack and... More

Enjoyed the food, great soup. Don't miss the largest pretzel in the world. Good beer selection, great service. A little over the top with the German dress and wall decor, but well done and fun. A Milwaukee institution. More expensive than expected, worth the experience.

A cold Wisconsin winter evening was the perfect backdrop for a wonderful visit to Maders, a historic German restaurant in the heart of Milwaukee that can continue to boast it is one of the finest ethnic restaurants in the country. We were treated to a hearty pair of meals featuring superb entrees: a German sampler of sauerbraten, Wiener Schnitzel, and... More

Have been coming here for more than 30 years and make it a point to have at least one meal here everytime I visit. Wonderful old world decor. Good beer selection. Usinger's sausages. Try the German sampler.
