Step back in time

Mader's is traditional German food. Literally step back in time. I believe the restaurant is around 120 years old. The who's who of people have eaten there. Reading the signed pictures was worth the trip. The 3 Stooges, Cary Grant , JFK, The Duke, You name it old and new. I can't believe the... read more

Absolutely fantastic restaurant, filled with beautiful authentic details. Great atmosphere, wonderful service, incredible meals! I had their pecan crusted salmon - DELICIOUS - I recommend it highly.

I really try to like Maders. German food is a favorite of mine and the steins, armor, carved wood, stained glass,etc....all make it feel like a unique German experience... But it seems like they have been "phoning it in" for a number of years while continuing to jack up prices for dishes that taste like they are coming off a... More

This restaurant has a very German ambiance through and through. It's very charming, the staff is friendly and helpful, the food is filling and good. It's a fun experience dining here. I loved the potato pancakes and the red cabbage is delicious.

Step in and suddenly you are decades back in time. We started with the potato pancakes and they were very good. My quest has been to find sauerbraten that is as good if not better than what I can make at home. This place is spot on. The sauerbraten was delicious. No shortcuts were made on the marinating process. The... More

We decided to give this place a try because the concierge recommended at our hotel. When we arrived the dining area was barely 20% occupied, however we attributed this to a slow week in Milwaukee business district. We ordered the favored appetizer that never arrived and finally the duck and German Sampler that was average at best. The servers appeared... More

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your recent visit. With 112 years of experience in the restaurant business, we have learned to rely on our customers to let us know what we are doing right and, of course, what can be improved. That said however, we do not always get everything right. Though you were not pleased... More

This place is a must stop for any visitor to Milwaukee, not only for the authentic German food, but also for the great atmosphere. The restaurant incorporates a large collection of old German items, including plates, mugs, armor, weapons, etc. The staff wear traditional German clothing, and you feel like you have been transported back to Germany. They have a... More

Mader's was the highlight of a good lunch. My wife had a Ruben and I had a German sampler. This place has great beer from Germany and German history from 1902 to today.

My husband and I traveled to Milwaukee for our 25th Anniversary. We ate at Mader's on Sunday when we arrived. The restaurant was near closing, but you would never know that. They were out of strudel so we went back on Monday for lunch. This place has THE BEST balsamic vinaigrette dressing I have ever had in my love. And... More

Pretzel week is a great deal. Buy 4 beers and you get a free large pretzel that is normally $16. It was delicious. The setting is very cool - the building is historic and charming, and there are a lot of interesting photos and artifacts around.
