Great venue with rich history in downtown Milwaukee. Split the German Sampler plate, which will still a more than generous portion, included sauerbraten, goulash, weinershnitzel, kraut, cabbage and a potato dumpling, all excellent. The liver dumpling soup was also as good as my mother used to make.

I think this is the place you take your mom when she comes to Milwaukee to visit. It's in an interesting part of town, if she knows anything about Milwaukee she will recognize the name Mader's (they have been in business for a very long time.) That being said it would not be my first Choice for German Food in... More

We had a nice dinner here after going to the theatre. Mader's has been part of the Milwaukee dining scene for over 100 years now. They have kept the best of the classic dishes (liver dumpling soup, hot bacon dressing on spinach salad, and so forth) but have changed and added some items to keep things lighter and more contemporary.... We came into town from Chicago to see a comedian at Turner Hall. We love coming up to Milwaukee and trying new restaurant. Traditional Germany food, I had the wiener schnitzel and the potato pancakes. Get the pork NOT the veal schnitzel, a friend got the veal and it had a very gammy flavor. Also try the rueben roll appraiser.

Beautiful, warm, inviting old world atmosphere. Obvious classic German menu, but some surprising items as well. In fact, I think that a few of their vegetarian dishes are some of the best I have ever enjoyed anywhere! So relaxing. A perfect place for a delicious family or business dinner, along with a brandy old-fashion or stein of cold beer. Cozy... More

We went to Milwaukee to visit the Spice House as we were looking for Hickory Smoked salt. Next door was Mader's, so we decided to go to lunch, since we like German cuisine. We were very pleasantly surprised at the excellent service, the quality food and the ability to take the streudel home and bake it ourselves, as we had... More

Wanting a real Milwaukee experience, I drug my sister out of our comfy hotel into the bitter cold and windy night to go eat some German food. Perhaps if she knew that JFK dined at Mader's German cuisine, around since 1902, she would've been more excited. It seems like a kind of cheesy place, with the waitresses dressed in German... More
