Enjoyed Everything!

Stayed in downtown Milwaukee for one night (Mid January). My sister and I were staying downtown and were out walking and looking for a place for dinner. We had looked at several places online. It is truly a German restaurant in the old style of 50 years ago with decor and a menu to go along with it. Large portions and mostly meat dishes. Clearly a popular restaurant enjoyed by many, but I prefer smaller portions with more nuanced selections. They are recently under new management and currently closed for renovations, so there may... we had a delicious authentic german meal. We loved the beer cheese dip and have been trying to recreate it ever since! Took our toddler in with us and they brought her paper and crayons to keep her busy. Staff were very good and patient with her.

This is a classic German Restaurant with all the ambiance and fun of almost being there, in Germany. We had fun sitting at a booth in the bar area. The bar is a fantastic antique with lots of beautiful glass goblets and interesting dishes to observe as you sit at it. The Sprecher Company is well represented on tap with... More

My wife had been here numerous times growing up with her mother, a friend and her friend's mother. My wife spoke often about us going there for a meal. The menu was not too long or complex. My wife tried the Sauerbraten, while I had Black Forest Schnitzel. Both meals were very good. Easy in and out and not difficult... More

one of the last remaining german restaurants in milwaukee and certainly, without a doubt, the best! the others are pale imitations and, frankly, should be avoided. the experience of old world german starts when you walk in the door and find yourself amazed by the wonderful old world atmosphere of heavy beams, giant beer steins and a warmth only to... Service was slow, food was ok. It took over an hour to get our order taken by the waiter. Was expecting a lot more from a Milwaukee landmark. They are living on their reputation alone evidently. The place needs a good dusting.

The food is best described as what your great-grandmother brought over from Germany lost in translation by a few generations and an American food palette. In short, mediocre German food but at a high price. Sad for the most German city in the U.S. And the staff is mediocre at best if not border line rude at times. The place... More

food was great however our server seemed new. He lost our drink order, asked for our entre order a second time and then served the salad after the entre. Could be the best German food in Milwaukee.
