Old World Charm

True German restaurant. A historic restaurant with lots of charm. The food was very good, as was the service. Sauerbraten was delicious. The spaetzle with onions and spinach was a very good vegetarian choice. Huge portions too. A must go while in Milwaukee.

Parking around the east side of Milwaukee is bad enough, let alone Bastille days taking more away. Luckily this was the only drawback to a bygone era of true, authentic German dining. We were greeted immediately and walked through a Bavarian wonderland. The walls have beautiful German artifacts, the ceiling is more chalet style than some in the fatherland and... More

Liver pate! Goose! Sausage! The best German food! Satisfies my European taste!!! If you are in Milwaukee, this place is a must to visit!

I wasn't so impressed with the food, but I did enjoy the history of the restaurant. It's a Milwaukee landmark.

It's been a few years since I've been to Ratzsch's and decided to take friends from out of town there. We had quite possibly the worst restaurant food I've had in many years. From the poor quality bread basket to the Luke warm soup... all the way to the thaw and serve desert...it just seemed to get worse. Not one... More

The decor is a reminder of Germany, as is the food. The service was excellent - attentive but unobtrusive - and the food tasty and satisfying. Most of the menu was new to me and it was well-balanced. I was particularly taken with the bread pudding which was much lighter than I expected with a lovely sauce.

Dinner was a disappointment. Food is overpriced. Everything is a la carte. Even the breadbasket was full of greasy croutons instead of rolls or good German rye bread. Schnitzel is not veal but very thin chicken breast or pork loin. So for about $30 you get packaged spaetzle and inexpensive flat meat. Let's not forget the ubiquitous red cabbage. The... More

Karl's was very busy when we showed up on a Saturday night in April so we sat in the bar. We wanted to try more than one restaurant in Milwaukee on our one night in town so we decided to get a bratwurst and beers to start our evening. The place is a museum of beer steins and antique glass... More

My son was graduating from Marquette and his sister came in from out of state for the celebrations. They both agreed to a lunch date, just the three of us, and we ended up at Karl Ratzsch's. Stunning décor with carved clocks and chandeliers, waiter and waitresses in traditional garb, meal was incredible - went traditional with breaded pork, dumplings... More

I have a fish allergy so i have to be careful what i order. however, everything was cooked with fish. i had to order a very expensive salad because it was the only thing that was safe for me to eat. when i was asking the waiter is a couple of the foods were cooked in the same oil as... More
