For many years we would go to Sanford for special occasions, always saying we wished we could dine there more often. A few years ago, we changed that and made it a point to dine there monthly. Thus over the past 3 or 4 years we may have dined at Sanford many times. We do it because it is both... More

Glad to see this ranked #1 as that's where I would have put it myself. We had the 7 course chef's surprise and boy, it was good; in fact, one of the best meals we've had anywhere! Quite a splurge.

See photos for details. Everything from service, mood, and food was spot on. Five stars. We ordered off the main dishes which had proven to be superb.

Milwaukee has some superb restaurants deserving of the highest praise, and Sanford is the very top. We started going when founder Chef Sandy D'Amato was there, and just recently under its new leadership. The quality of food (including ingredients, techniques, presentations, etc.) is what you get at the highest regarded restaurants anywhere in the U.S. The service is impeccable. The... More

It was our first time at Sanford's. My husband and I were celebrating his retirement and wanted to try something special. We both thought it was a wonderful experience. We tried the 7 course surprise tasting; the portions were small as expeced but the total amount seem fine for me (my husband could have handled a bit more). What we'd... More

this was truly one of the best dinners I've ever had. My mom has a food allergy so food has to be prepared a certain way, no problem. they were happy to accomodate.

Perfect experience - one of the best restaurants we have ever visited. Both menu and service are top notch. Worth a drive from Chicago. Will be coming back.

We ordered the surprise. Each of the dishes was wonderful on its own. That said let's start docking points. The appetizer was the size of a dime. Truly. It had us wondering what we just spent 85 Dollars on. The following dishes all had substance. Most popped with flavor but not all. For that price point I expect nothing short... More

I would rate the food a 5 and the atmosphere a 1. It's in an old dilapidated building on the inside it's like your in someone's basement. There are windows in the front of the place but the curtains were drawn. I guess they don't want you looking at the other old dilapidated buildings that surround the place. There is... More

Hands down, game over. And it has maintained that position for years and years. The restaurant is a small, elegant space in the old Sanford grocery store. Food is incredible, service is impeccable. For an elegant, romantic, intimate dinner, you absolutely can't beat Sanford.
