I would rate the food a 5 and the atmosphere a 1. It's in an old dilapidated building on the inside it's like your in someone's basement. There are windows in the front of the place but the curtains were drawn. I guess they don't want you looking at the other old dilapidated buildings that surround the place. There is... More

Hands down, game over. And it has maintained that position for years and years. The restaurant is a small, elegant space in the old Sanford grocery store. Food is incredible, service is impeccable. For an elegant, romantic, intimate dinner, you absolutely can't beat Sanford.

We visited on a Monday evening, we were greeted promptly by the valet. The restaurant is located in the east side quaint neighborhood. It was a birthday celebration we were given a table that could have been used for four. I mention this for the deuces are close together, New York style. The service is attentive but not over bearing,... More

Best restaurant I have ever been in the US and I come from a country where food is part and parcel of the culture. I arrived rather late, but that was not the slightest problem. Self-backed Grisini.

My wife and I returned to Sanford after a several year sabbatical. We had been once or twice yearly customers of the restaurant since it opened in the late ‘80’s but with all of the new fine dining options that have popped up in the Milwaukee area over the last several decades, it sort of fell by the wayside for... We went for a business dinner at the Sanford restaurant in MKE. Excellent service, atmosphere and overall dining experience. Cosy little boutique restaurant. We enjoyed the 8 course surprise menu, overall very enjoyable with some positive surprises. I will wholeheartedly recommend this little pearl of a restaurant.

After last year's outstanding meal, we decided to go back for our anniversary. We had another spectacular meal. We arrived on time and our table was waiting. Our waiter was the same fine gentleman we had last year. We started with some cava, and enjoyed a small smoked trout amuse-bouche. We ordered the basil flan with mushrooms and duck tongue,... More

Amazing dining experience. From the hostess to the wait staff all spot on. Dinner of 5 was very good. The Elk,veal, halibut and tenderloin were all cooked to perfection. Desserts were great too. Expensive yes but well worth it. Great for a special occasion.

If you think Milwaukee is nothing but beer and brats, then you have to try this restaurant. Food is fresh and imaginative without being over the top. Service is impeccable. Wine list is extensive and well organized. Figure $100/person when all is said and done. But it is one of the best meals I have had in ages. Nothing I... More

I had been recommended this place for a while now and have been keeping up on the change since Justin took over. My husband had inquired on the "day in the kitchen" experience but it was only M-F and my schedule didn't allow (plus it was $500/person, a bit more than we were ready to invest for our first experience)....
