Really enjoyed the food and will go back.

I should start by saying I've only been to two other Ethiopian restaurants in my life -- this was the best one. The combination of spices were unlike anything I've tasted before and the presentation was interesting and fun. Perhaps this restaurant's only shortcoming is its decor and layout. It... read more

The combination of spices were unlike anything I've tasted before and the presentation was interesting and fun. Perhaps this restaurant's only shortcoming is its decor and layout. It looks like a generic A1 China Express buffet-type place that... More

The restaurant serves authentic Ethiopian food. The interiors have a rustic feel resembling a small village out in Ethiopia. The food is very delicious and also very healthy at the same time. Curiously the Ethiopian cuisine greatly resembles Indian cuisine as a result of which we felt right at home with the food. I personally liked the collection of vegetarian... More

Six of us (two gluten free) enjoyed a delicious lunch at Alem. Although, the buffet would have been quite sufficient on its own (both vegetarian and gluten-free) we decided to try three meat entrees just to enjoy the different flavors. The meats were tender and well prepared - one lamb and two chicken. The flavors blended beautifully with the buffet... More

The food at this restaurant has made it a destination for us whenever we are in the area. The menu has a wide selection of vegetarian/vegan options, and my kids happily ate vegetables that they wouldn't look twice at anywhere else. Excellent food and quick service!

We enjoyed the full menu. We had the vegetarian lunch buffet and C1 and L3. The C1 chicken dish had a great almost chili like taste. The L3 lamb was peppery and slightly spicy. We liked the food much. Prices were reasonable.

This is the best vegan lunch buffet in Milwaukee. Has to be, since I think it might be the only one :) The food is always tasty and it is only $9. I always order the warm or cold spiced tea to go with it. The service is excellent and it is never a problem getting a seat. They have... More

Alem is the first place I ate Ethiopian. And the first place where I drank Ethiopian too. As in beer. What I liked about the place can be summarised in this short review: 1. A nice warm place (it helped because it was very cold outside) 2. A charming hostess 3. Lovely food - we (a party of 4) went... More

I love Ethiopian food. It is generally simple, flavorful and healthy and best way to enjoy is by eating with bare hands. This is my first visit to Alem, the dining room is nicely decorated with Ethiopian artifacts, simple furniture and very nice paintings by unknown artist (do walk around and enjoy the art showing life in Ethiopia. We ordered... More

Never been to ehtiopian restaurant before and wanted to try something different. The food is really good, especially if you are indian and tired of the spices but still need a strong flavor, this is the place you should try. The way food is served is little bit different, as in my case, we were three friends and they served... More

After the awesome 1:00 Sunday performance of Lion King today, we HAD to go for dinner for authentic African food! We had two combinations for the four of us to try the lamb, chicken, and beef and vegetables, and they were very good! It is no problem to eat without forks or spoons when you have sponge bread to enjoy... More
