Ordered take out from Mekong. I’ve had mixed experiences there before, but my daughter is a fan so I figured, sure- why not. First, the phone conversation was actually quite humorous. The fellow couldn’t quite get anything straight- said I seemed to be cutting out....So I repeated- he repeated- I repeated and he read it back. Pad Thai and drunken noodles with chicken. Oh an a spring roll. Fine. 40+ bucks? My daughter picked it up and commented to me that the phone conversation was exactly like her conversation there! The guy couldn’t quite keep anything straight! The drunken noodles were quite mushy, extremely salty tasting and the shrimp half decent. Odd, since I ordered chicken. The pad Thai was flavorless. Dry and lacking any sort of peanut essence, save for the few nuts scattered in. The spring roll was good, to be fair. While prices are ridiculously high everywhere, this was excessive. And really not all that good to boot. So I had given them another shot and and I remain well less than even underwhelmed.More

My wife and I moved from Bangkok to the MKE area recently. The food has been great the times we have eaten there and the people that work there have been incredible. Whenever my wife is missing Thai food/groceries this is the place we go....The fried rice is great and the Bahn mi sandwiches have been amazing.More

Really miss the amazing lunch buffet from precovid days, used to be on of our regular lunch places, but looks like it's doing well as a market and takeout food place.

Large portions which is a positive. However, it does not qualify as my favorite local vietnamese "restaurant" and will not return. Heavy on noodles and light on veggies even when we paid for extra vegetables. Taste was uninspiring. Tried them because Hue closed in Tosa...due to pandemic unfortunately. Was unable to have food ready for pickup at time requested and had to wait 15 minutes even though I placed order 2 hours ahead of time. Looked like more of a store with a kitchen doing carry out than a typical restaurant.More

Great Asian food. Loved the pineapple rice, and lettuce wraps. Good sized portions that you can share. Prices are reasonable. Would like to go back and try the lunch buffet.

Walked here the other night for dinner. They are a neighborhood restaurant for us but it’s the first time we tried it. We were very pleased and will definitely be returning. We started with the Nam Kow lettuce wrap. Made with rice that was fried...until crispy with wonderful Laotian seasoning, I would definitely order this as a main course in the summer. I ordered the pud prik, a stir fry that this evening included fresh green beans- very aromatic and flavorful. I like my food spicy so I ordered it at level 3 out of 4. It was perfect. Nice and warm but not scorching hot. By husband ordered the larb and was pleased with the flavorful spiciness of the dish. Service was attentive and our meal was served in a timely manner. Absolutely no complaints from us and I think we’ll be regulars here.More

Good variety of food, including chicken, pork, and beef; rice and pad thai. Lunch buffet was quick and they did refill everything. It was fairly busy for a Monday, which is a good sign for a buffet. Dining area was very clean and modern. I...would definitely go back.More

Get the duck! Or anything else that I have tried the several times that I have been here, can’t get enough; high quality food, friendly staff, comfortable atmosphere. I need to try their Buffett soon; looks so good.

We entered the Mekong Cafe about 5:15 p.m, and for a short while were the only customers. The staff was cleaning and doing maintenance, changing light bulbs on a tall ladder. A very loud vacuum cleaner was being operated, and we were seated close to...it by a hostess. We sat and waited to see a server, but the staff continued to work on the lights and operate the roaring vacuum cleaner. Becoming increasingly annoyed, I got up from my table, walked over to the staff and asked if the restaurant was open for business. They said it was. I suggested it was unpleasant for customers and inappropriate for staff to be operating a loud vacuum cleaner. Staff members looked surprised, but when I asked that it be turned off, they complied. It appeared that the restaurant was being run by teenagers short on experience during this shift. The food ran the gamut from disappointing to excellent. Tom Kha soup was weak, watery and lacking the rich flavor I expect. Pud See Ewe was wonderful, as tasty as I have ever enjoyed. Overall, dining at the Mekong Cafe was a weird experience. I will return some day for the Pud See Ewe. Hopefully, the vacuum cleaner will be in a closet.More

The buffet had a good variety of entrees. Some were very flavorful like the red curry pork and Mekong chicken. The papaya salad was fresh and delicious. The grilled beef was a disappointment; it only had a few pieces left and my piece (and my...friends') were very chewy. I went back several times to try a different piece but they did not restock the grilled beef. The yom tum soup had hardly any ingredients and mostly watered down broth. The server was very attentive, clearing our dirty plates and refilling our water but never asking us if everything was good. We received our bill but wanted to order the bubba tea. She told us we had to go up to the bar and order it. It took over 20 minutes for her to make 4 bubba teas. I had the fresh fruit mango strawberry bubba tea. It was okay if you want a refreshment, but I could hardly tell there were fresh fruits in there. For $6.00, it was more crushed ice with a hint of fruit. Overall the place is average.More

Mekong Cafe is a beautiful restaurant in Milwaukee. It has the most simple, yet meaningful artwork in its restaurant. The music, the photos, everything about the decor gives everyone a taste of the Thai and Laotian cultures. Too bad the pho wasn't the greatest despite...offering a huge bowl for 4 for such a low price. The service was very slow, and what my family and I had hoped to be a quick lunch turned out to be a whole 2 hours. Between appetizers and regular food, our wait was almost an hour. The papaya salad is highly recommended.More

I needed to rid myself of that bureaucratic weight that I sometimes carry with me after a visit to the social security office, and Mekong was the perfect antidote. It's a small table, eat-all-you-wish buffet with good Vietnamese food and a friendly wait staff. The...chicken and beef dishes are savory, the soups range from spicy to piquant, and the fried bananas make a great end of meal sweet.More

We went for their lunch buffet. The ingredients were delightfully fresh. The several hot options were brought out in smaller quantities compared to other Asian type buffets that we have been to, which insured hot servings. The pricing was very good for the quality of...food.More

Some of the best Curry that I have had locally - I will definitely be making this a regular stop. They spice was just right, but it was still a flavorful; a lot of times when ordering a dish that has some heat - that...is all that you get is heat and no flavor. The fried veggie spring rolls were also A-MAZING, they had a perfect amount of crunch and the wraps also had a good flavor. The atmosphere inside is inviting and comfortable, and they have a nice bar as well, the staff was helpful and friendly as well.More
