Dinner Flashback to bygone era

Food Ok. Service good in a great old lodge with wonderful views. Old school and fun. A bit too formal but worth the visit for dinner. Cabins looked real nice but did not stay here.

Live in Woodruff and took family from NY to Voss', thinking that this would be a really nice place to eat. NOT....3 steaks and turkey dinner...horrible. I'm not sure where the meat was purchased at, but all the steaks were tough and the turkey had no flavor...neither did the steaks. Sweet potatoes seemed like they were canned and doctored up.... I'm so very sorry that you had a bad experience at our family restaurant. As you can see by the other reviews we have a good reputation. My son, Chris, is the Chef and his food is usually highly praised and enjoyed by our guests. I don't know what the problem was the night you visited, but, again, I'm very... More

Our favorite restaurant in the north woods of Wisconsin is Voss'. We look forward to our trips to Manitowish Waters so we can have dinner there. My husband usually gets the prime rib or rib eye steak and I love the sautéed walleye with lemon butter and capers. The atmosphere is lovely...a north woods lodge... each table is set with... More

Our family has held family celebrations: weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and christenings at Voss', along with simply celebrating the north woods in summer. This century + old resort is an elegant return to a bygone era when life was simpler and the pace more measured. Featured on the NY Times as a place not to be missed, this family-owned establishment provides... More

For over 100 years, same-family owned Voss Birchwood Lodge has been a part of vacations to the top of the state of Wisconsin. Our family just loves to visit and dine as often as we can. It's the whole package experience...the amazing pine tree scented grounds with old-time cottages, the original 1920's lodge, the highway coffee shop and boutiques, and... More

Voss's has a smaller menu to select from, but with that comes a well prepared and delicious dinner. I chose the Chicken Marsala, which included baby baked potatoes. It just melted in your mouth. The waitresses are so polite and willing to accommodate your needs. The setting overlooks one of the beautiful northwoods lakes. Reservations are recommended as this is... More

I've been visiting northern Wisconsin since the 1960s, and the old lodges with beautiful trees and grounds and good food have all but disappeared in recent years. Friends who live in Mercer took me to Voss' Birchwood Lodge Restaurant tonight because they have a very good singer and musical group several Thursdays each month in the summer. The music was... Great atmosphere for dining and drinks. Only the very hardy should sleep over, very costly for a smelly, mold in the bathroom grout, terrible bed. Never again I am too old to put up with going home tired. Couldn't wait to check out!!!

Thank you for taking the time to comment on our establishment. I'm sorry you had a bad experience in our lodge. The building was built as our "new, modern" lodge in 1924 and as such there are difficulties in maintenance. The rooms do have new mattresses and we do stress extreme cleanliness to our cleaning staff. During the peak season... More

My family eats at Voss' pretty regularly during the summer. The entire grounds are gorgeous, but the Lodge itself is a gem. The ambiance in the main room is very Northwoods-y and the look of the dining room is fantastic. My family and I love the coordinating but not matching antique glassware at each table. The dining room is especially... More
