Fantastic Every Time

I probably eat at the Freighthouse 3 to 4 times a year and I can honestly say I have never had a bad meal. I did have to return a steak once that was over cooked but they immediately had another one prepared which was perfect, The filets are fantastic and the crab legs are huge and delicious... read more

Went to the Freighthouse on a Monday night with my wife and daughter. The reviews were fairly good, not glowing, so my expectations were not high. The place was fairly quiet and when we arrived at 5:30, we were the only ones in the dining room. Not having had lunch, we were eager to eat. They started by bringing hot,... More

They do not take reservations, however they can usually get you in with a short wait in the room with the bar. Staff is attentive and food has never disappointed us. When we have out of town company, this is where we go, because we know it will be a wonderful evening.

Shared a wonderful steak dinner with my husband. We ordered a 20 oz .Porterhouse which was too much for one of us to eat .Was great to have quality steak that wasn't salty! Their salad bar was excellent. Fresh vegetables and homemade dressing to accompany your sale selection!

We spent New Year's Eve at the new Hampton Inn and Suites downtown and the Freighthouse is close by. We knew that there would be a long wait for a table because of the date (and there was - 2 hours), but it was worth it. As busy as they were, when we did get a table, the service was... More

Old railroad station atmosphere with consistently excellent steaks and prime rib. The thing about the Freighthouse is the food is always consistent and not over priced. The salad bar is nicely stocked and the service is great. The only minor negative is the bar area is a bit small for the crowds that come to the restaurant. It is a... More

For my husband's birthday, and our anniversary, we wanted to finally go eat here. We heard it gets pretty packed, so we went for option B only to find that option B was booked. After walking downtown for a bit to scout out other possible places to eat, we gave the Freight House a call and was given an estimate... More

The building is beautiful from the outside. The atmosphere is a little dark. The furnishings seem dated/worn. The salad bar is puny and lacks any interesting variety. The prime rib was cooked correctly, but tasted bland. Same with the vegetables. For the price it wasn't really that good. We decided it wasn't good enough to merit a return visit. They... More

The Freighthouse in La Crosse is a nice restaurant, serves excellent food and we have never had a bad waitperson. One thing can ruin all of this, the restaurant does not take reservations, so if you show up most nights, [especially weekends] you will have a long wait 30 minutes or longer. I cannot understand why such an excellent restaurant... More

Busy Saturday evening but we still found a place at the bar for a cocktail, while we watched them make these enormous Brandy Alexander's and Grasshoppers. Great ambience in what used to Be a train station, and beautifully decorated for Christmas. Ordered half a pound of crab legs, which was an extremely generous helping, served alongside drawn butter and acorn... More
