Terrific food, disappointing service

Wow - talk about contrasts! The food here was absolutely fantastic - unique dishes cleverly created and delightfully presented - even fresh fish and lobster. (For an appetizer, the whitefish chowder is outstanding!) However, the overall experience was spoiled by our waiter, who seemed to forget we... read more

Having found this restaurant to be recommended, and a small advert in a guide to Door County, we checked it out. What looks like a former home, now converted to a formal looking but casual dining room over looking Bailey's Harbor. There is a bar that greets you, that makes excellent Door County Mule drinks, complete with many cherries. Beyond... More

My wife and I had eaten here on our first Door County trip, so we knew about the wonderful menu! From an expense standpoint it would be $$$$ but if it is that one special time, we recommend you do not pass it by! The Halibut Cheeks are beyond wonderful, and if you don't mind wearing the bib, the Lobster... More

My boyfriend and I came to Harbor Fish Market yesterday to have dinner. I had never been there before and he had been there a few years ago. He got the lobster boil they feature 4 nights a week and said it was amazing. At other places, I usually don't like lobster bisque or mussels and I tried both from... More

Our waitress was kind. I realized a few minutes after we ordered that I had forgot to tell her we wanted cheese curds, she got the order in right away and brought them out soon, she did bring out our food shortly after delivering the cheese curds and apologized about it and said she didn't want the food to get... It was so lovely of you to take the time to write a review here! And we do take our service seriously -- so I am happy that you realized that we don't like to bring out entrees too soon after appetizers! We really hope to see you again soon and thank you sincerely for the kind review! More

We have been coming to Door County for years, yet managed to miss this place, maybe because it is on "the quiet side" of the peninsula. We had a lovely outdoor brunch there. Whitefish cakes benedict were out of this world, delicious quiche, good coffee. Sometimes outdoor seating can be on small, lightweight chairs which are not comfortable, but the... More

Even after 16 years we are still hearing, "when did you open?" Our quieter side of the peninsula stays quieter and we love it. We get so many questioning faces when we explain that we are simply 10 minutes from Egg Harbor, Fish Creek or Sister Bay -- and we love showing folks that dining here in Baileys Harbor is... More

Upon arrival was offered a table or booth! Asked to be seated outside, "oh no it is suppose to rain." Said we would prefer! Was seated in shade versus sun as requested and finished our meal without any clouds or rain! Serving was haphazard but there were several tables of people, so didn't understand! However, chowder was good with a... More

Thanks for understanding about our reluctance to seat people outside if it is expected to rain. We have had a number of evenings spent rushing around trying to get folks inside and seated without too much drama and we are always concerned with making certain your dining experience is the best we can provide. Not sure what you mean about... More

Four of us sat outside and a little disappointed it wasn't really waterfront. I had the best soft shell crab sandwich I've ever had. My sister had the lobster roll and we agreed with some of the other reviews not worth the money and too much celery. Service was ok. One of the orders was wrong and we received a... More

It just lovely that you took the time to write a review here and we really appreciate your input. We do love our soft shell crabs here -- and I just tasted the lobster salad for our lobster rolls. We do have a recipe that we use and I have asked our executive chef to take the salad to see... More

The venue is quaint and welcoming. Nice bar and comfortable sitting area. We visited for the lobster boil which was really yummy ($55 each) which included a lobster bisque soup and dessert. Dining in has nice, clean, nautical atmosphere. Outdoor dining was okay, nice view of the lake, but a bit buggy. Service was very good. Will definitely visit again... More

We do love our lobster boil! Tonight we will serving over 40 boils so that will mean a great deal of running back and forth for the nice young person from our kitchen. Our firewood for the wood fired pot between the dining room windows and the waters edge comes from a local farmer who makes a little money on... More

Fish Dinner on a Friday night. The food was fabulous. I had the Wallentlleye pike. Service was excellent.

Thank you! We have prepared our walleye a number of ways and have all decided we like the way we are currently preparing it the best! Simply pan frying that great fresh fish and finishing it with a lemon/garlic/butter reduction lets the freshness and the flavor of the fish shine through! Thanks so much for the lovely review! More
