Description: Good Natured Market and Vegetarian Cafe:In 1930, my grandfather, Emmett...
Good Natured Market and Vegetarian Cafe:In 1930, my grandfather, Emmett Wilbarger, built and ran a small gas station just outside of Bridgewater, Virginia. He sold farm fresh eggs, crates of cheese and locally made potato chips. With the advent of franchise driven stores, the independent gas station became a thing of the past. I guess I must have subconsciously missed that old store. With that in mind, Good Natured came into being. Jim and I opened our store in October of 2007. Our original intent was to become the neighborhood general store, specializing in eco-friendly products. In reality, today's "eco-friendly" really looks a lot like the things that my family sold - local, simple and well made. Over the past five years, I've come to realize that food is the driving force here at Good Natured, from the groceries and produce we sell to the homemade soups, sandwiches and desserts prepared in the cafe. Our beautiful old Victorian house is filled with good stuff for your house. We carry a little of everything....garden seeds, water filters, sandals, homeopathics, vitamins, key chains, toothbrushes, shampoos, essential oils, candles, incense, towels, socks, t-shirts, jazz, blues, reggae, folk & alternative rock CDs, water bottles, sprouting seeds, chocolates, organic coffee, bulk herbs, grains, beans, flours, local milk and eggs. If you are traveling it's a great spot for an extended break. Shop and then enjoy our "own" vegetarian burgers, a refreshing chai or our new Banana Chocolate Lava Cake. Everything is "made from scratch". We make the best grilled cheese, summer tart and vegetarian reuben in West Virginia....or so I'm told. We serve local beer and wine. (Gluten-free and Vegan) On some Saturdays we're open later as we welcome local bands and musicians from far away. It will be time well spent!

Above expectation

While driving around and seeing everything around it, I did not have high hopes for this place. However, the place itself looks great inside and out. It's definitely well kept. I ate there and I also shopped in the market. The soup I had, Thai Coconut, and the service were both great. The market... read more

Wonderful meal. Great vegetarian menu along with WV wines or WV craft brews. My wife and I met here to have a luncheon in the middle of a busy shopping spree and were able to relax in a great little cafe!

Don't be fooled by the exterior of this place, which looks like someone's house. The atmosphere is very cozy and the staff is extremely friendly. We had the yoga bread with a cranberry and honey spread as an appetizer which was amazing. I ordered the tempeh BLT which was delicious and it came with a house salad and garlic dressing.... More

First of all - if you're eating here on a warm day, make sure you check out the back patio for available seating! It's quite nice out there! Inside the cafe has an open seating style which doesn't really bode well for romantic outings. The salads were unexpectedly good. They were a conglomerate of fresh, tasty ingredients including; sprouts, raisins,... More

I never expected to find a place with so many homemade, delicious vegan options when in town for work. When I pulled up I wasn't sure what to make of the place, but parked and entered in the back into the cafe and it was very welcoming (both decor and service). Food was excellent, have eaten there on every trip... More

This is a great place to eat if you're looking to eat organically and seeking healthier options. The café has a small town relaxed vibe, and the food is always delicious. Service can be a little slow, but that's because they're preparing everything as it's ordered. So just enjoy chatting up your friends and family as you wait. Everything we've... More

On one of our monthly ladies gathering we went to this restaurant. It isn't a huge place but the food is freshly made with locally supplied ingredients. The cooks magically make some really good dishes. It is vegetarian and we all enjoyed the lunch that day. There is a little grocery store attached with lots of goodies to buy.

We stopped here for lunch while passing through Martinsburg. Their cafe is wonderful -- my wife found it a welcome alternative to the highly processed fast-food offerings you often get on the road. She loved their dinner salad, and I enjoyed their sweet potato falafel. It is likely the best such place in the area. The store has a good... More

Our options for organic, healthy, food is so limited in this town. It's a shop, it's a restaurant, and as both, it is fabulous.

Absolutely wonderful. Who would of thought that this kind of quality and menu could be found here. No offense but this town is not known for it's culinary skills, but, this place could go against any big town restaurants. Unique menu, great prices, great food and lots of interesting things (food items, spices, art, etc) to shop or look at... More
