First and foremost, our family loves the town of Lewisburg; it's shops, people and rich history. Our family has been visiting Lewisburg since 2003 when we purchased Westwinds, a horse farm in western Virginia near Lake Moomaw. While we've enjoyed the several restaurants in town, we also felt the locals as well as tourists would welcome and support more restaurant options, and so far we've been right! Our family's first restaurant, Stella's, has been a hit since we opened in January, 2011. Stella's, named and inspired after our mom Alice Stella Hirt who passed away in 1985, is warm, welcoming and elegant, just like our mom was. Stella's has many feminine touches which were influenced by our mom and put into place by Tammy. Our newest restaurant, The Livery Tavern, on the other hand is a very masculine interpretation of a mid-1800's tavern, with an open beamed ceiling and a generous use of natural materials and earth tones both inside and out. The Livery has a full bar, privacy booth seating, outdoor patio seating and an extensive wine and port list. Our menu is a reflection of this same interpretation, with dishes including grilled venison, quail, lamb and local beef cuts like 2 inch bone-in rib eyes. The Livery is also fashioned with a unique military motif to honor our father Major General John B. Hirt USMC, who passed away in 2012. You'll find these military influences in our logo and other decorative treatments inside the restaurant.

I can't say enough about this amazing place! We went to dinner for a birthday celebration and just was wowed from beginning to end. The cocktails were excellent! I had VA oysters on the half shell for an app, several others on our group had the Caesar salad or the Heirloom tomato salad. I... read more

We were at the Greenbrier for the opening of the new Tennis Pavilion last weekend. The restaurants at the Resort were booked a week in advance. I was able to make a reservation at The Livery which was new to us. We have enjoyed meals at several good restaurants in Lewisburg and the Livery was great. Our meals were very... More

Our party visited The Livery Tavern on the first evening of our visit to Lewisburg. We chose to sit outside and share the Charcutine Board (assorted local cheeses and meats, stone ground mustard, olive tapenade) and drinks. Our waiter was very prompt refilling our drinks and checked on us frequently. We enjoyed the patio’s casual atmosphere and view that it... More

This was our first dinner in Lewisburg. We were seated on the porch, still a bit damp after earlier showers. Our drink and appetizers were delicious, with special kudos for the sweatbreads and the oysters. All of our entrees were excellent, though the lamb became a fabulous example of accountability by the restaurant and particularly by the chef. My lamb... More

Have been eaten at the Livery about 8 times. Most of the time, the food is fresh, prepared well, and healthy. Recently, the chef has been adding too many sauces and sugar the food. Including the veggies. Ruined roasted brussel sprouts with a sugar-ladened sauce. ASK HOW EVERYTHING IS PREPARED. Steaks and seafood is great.

Food was truly spectacular. The atmosphere was great and the service was good but slow. We were there from 6:30-9:30 for a table for four on a Friday evening with Open Table Reservation. Don't get me wrong - it was worth the wait but it sure took a while. Don't come if you are in a hurry. Even our drinks... More

If The Livery is number 3 on Trip Advisor's list, 1 and 2 must be off the chart. Several nights ago, my wife and I had a wonderful dinner. At the bar, they had my Laphroaig whisky. Not only the 10 year but the 18 as well. Always extra points for this. Our dinner started with a Caesar salad. But... More

excellent preparation and plating. We tried the sweetbreads - they were pan fried and served in a small skillet with grilled spinach and grape tomatoes and radish. We had the same dinner - both had the bone-in porkchop. about 1 1/2 inches thick and perfectly grilled- moist and slight pink all the way though. Served simply with piped potatoes and... More

My husband and I enjoyed not only the wonderful food but also the attentive wait staff. I had the best possible scallop dish and my husband had the delicious beef dish. We enjoyed our waiter Nathan who was not only friendly but very helpful. The Livery was a great experience that we will have again.

The Livery is a must when we visit Lewisburg, always a great experience. Limited but excellent menu. Ordered the coffee-rubbed ribeye this evening (chef's special) prepared nicely, but the cut of meat was not so great. I realize things happen sometimes, but I was a bit disappointed that I had to wrestle with the steak. About halfway through, I decided... More
