Really good Mexican food...

This restaurant is always busy. That speaks well of the food and feel of the place because it brings back return customers. Winthrop is off the beaten path and it's nice to make a trip up here for some good food away from the normal fast food choices.

The waiter was nice and accommodating (Payton) but the food was so-so. The nachos were burnt so sent them back and the second serving was just OK.

We came here for the 49er Days Festival over Mother's Day weekend. We were so hungry by the time we got to town and this was the first stop we made. It was a beautiful evening so we opted to sit on the deck out back overlooking the river. It's a very beautiful location! We started by splitting the Carlos... More

Would have been at 5* if the balcony was a bit nicer. Food was great. Service was great. Balcony sits looking over the river but was a bit rustic and slanted. Being fussy here, but trying to be honest. Otherwise at 4+ "muy bueno" ! Gracious :-)

We make a point to have dinner out with our annual fishing/camp-out friends. Last year, we chose Carlos1800...this year, they chose Carlos1800! I chose the fajita chicken burrito (no rice on side please) and it was absolutely ALL I could eat. And very tasty. Our waiter was prompt, gracious and unusual with a long braid and bouncy demeanor. A fun... More

Sat on the patio outside in the sun by the river. Ate delicious chips and homemade salsa and guacamole. Then the pepita salad (waiters recommendation). Chicken nicely spiced and grilled.

Their speciality (Conchinita pibil) tasted really good; for some strange reason, it tasted like a curry item we get in the eastern part of India :) The margarita was also pretty stiff and good. We would surely drop by the next time we are in town

In addition to the usual fare you find in Mexican restaurants, Carlo 1800 had some interesting Yucatan dishes. We enjoyed two chicken creations that had delightful flavors. The margaritas are really good too. Winthrop is not a dining mecca so this was a nice find.

Well we stopped in here for lunch while on a road trip. The taco plates were very good but a little pricy. 3 tacos with beans and rice for over $15 seems a little steep. We got one order of the beef and one order of the pork tacos so we could try both. Both very good we enjoyed our... More

Don't look for great Mexican food here. It's okay, and considering how bad some of the other restaurant options are in Winthrop, I guess I should be happy that it's edible. It's very large and would be good for families. The servers were very nice.
