Good food and experience, but expected great.

First, if not the most expensive restaurant in Tacoma, it is in the same price range. Service was as good as you will get anywhere. Not a great selection of seafood for a coastal city, but the steaks are the stars of the show anyway. Sides were generous size and diverse for everyone's taste... read more

I hate writing this, because I'm a champion of the improving restaurant scene in Tacoma and the south Puget Sound. But our poor experience (and a lack of response to my privately written review to the local GM) prompts me to do so. We made advance reservations for my mother-in-law's 90th birthday, an obviously very special event. We arrived, and... More

Everything you order here you will love. The service is impeccable. The price is way up there so just expect it. But you will definitely leave feeling satisfied.

When you go to El gauchos you put your cell phone away, sit back and allow your server to guide you through a fabulous meal. It is as much an experience as it is dining. Let you serve help you pick you wine, have a port afterwards to pair with the delicious cheese and but platter served after every meal.... More

It dark inside, you have to use flash hand to read the menu. I do not like it, but dishes are excellent and prices, but it is ok. I will not return.

My niece had visited here before, and wanted to treat me for my first night in town. Guess she knows what I like! The outside is quite unassuming -- just a small neon sign. Once you're inside -- wow! The lighting is low. Immediately you hear what you know is live piano music (not Musak). On the landing by the... More

I came here with my family for dinner and we were all impressed by the amazing food and service at this place. Our server was good with checking up on us for refills on drinks and any additional orders. We will definitely be coming back!

The sign on the street is classic and subdued. We were totally thrown off when we opened the door to a dark place that felt like another time period. It was so unique. The server placed our napkins in our laps and gave us mini flash lights to view the menu. The beer and wine selection is fairly mediocre. It... More

I took my wife here for her Birthday dinner. The atmosphere was great and our waiter was very attentive. The piano player was not to loud and just a beautiful background music. The bananas florentine was the best. A bit pricey but so worth it.

I like to to to El Gaucho (or as the locals call it El Gaugo) when someone else is paying. The steaks are top notch, the setting is like a New York steakhouse ("am I still in Tacoma"), but the prices are very high. There is a $50 corkage fee, which is unreasonable in my opinion.
