Dinner with San Francisco foodies

We went to El Gaucho with friends from San Francisco who are pretty high up on the foodie scale. I suppose that is to be expected when you have the quality of dining that is available in the Bay Area. They were in the mood for steak and some good wine. Deciding we did not want to give the... read more

We go here for special events and the happy hour is by far the best in Tacoma. Come here for the steaks and the ceasar salad.

Wonderful meal. From the Caesar Salad made table side to the amazing Rib Eye cooked to perfection. Everything they do is wonderful. Only down side is the price but hey they post the menu out front so you know what your getting into.

A visit to El Gaucho is a trip back in time to the classic chop houses of mid-century America, with a slight Argentine twist. The menu overflows with familiar favorites of a bygone age: Oysters Rockefeller, Escargot, Chateau Briand, and table side preparation of Caesar Salad, Bananas Foster, and even your own personally customized baked potato (a meal in itself,... I have been to many great steak houses all across the country and unfortunately I would not call El Gaucho great. The steak had great flavor but was not hot. The mashed potatoes were average and the Risotto was dry. I really expected a lot better meal for the price they are charging!! The service was great and the atmosphere... More

A company party was held here and it was amazing, the seafood was great and I'm not much for spicy foods but I couldn't have enough of the subtle to moderate spice, the ingredients were very good! Great place to feel good!

El Gaucho is authentic Old School Northwest fine dining at its best. If you want a dramatic dining experience, you can certainly have it here: they offer a flaming Brochette of Tenderloin - your server brings it on sword and finishes it at the table. It is finished with a rich taragon sauce. So delicious! Also - tableside preparations of... More

Service was not what you would expect out of a place with the reputation and prices. Went once for a special occasion with friends, tab was over $500, the service was slow, inept, and arrogant. You felt like you were inconvenient to them to bring you something off the menu or bar.

Great steak and seafood menu. Top selections of wines. The restaurant is dimly lit, so coming in from outside is a little tricky. If you are looking for a quiet spot with great food in Tacoma, this is the spot.

This is a premier restaurant like the Seattle one. The food is excellent and the service first class. Of course, you pay a little more for both. The Filet Oscar was cooked perfect with a generous portion of crab. The baked potato was fresh and hot, not like one sitting since noon. My favorite is their presentation tableside of bananas...
