My husband and I are on vacation, touring the US on our way up to Alaska. We've had some interesting meals, but the best by far has been at Renate's German Restaurant in Lynden, WA. The place is known to locals as having only fresh food, nothing canned or frozen! We'd asked a couple people, after reading reviews here, and... More

My wife and I enjoyed our first visit to Renate's this evening. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful in helping us make our dinner choices. I started with a cup of Lentil Soup, (which was more like a bowl!) It was excellent, and among the best I have ever tasted. I then selected their special of the day, which... More

We frequent this place. The sauerbraten is delicious, likely a Kaiserslautern region recipe (where the chef is from) not as vinegary as some recipes, such that kids will like it. We often order an extra sauerbraten and take to friend in resthome, who raves about it. It's quite popular with the locals and they sometimes run out. The schnitzel is... More

I'm here from Germany visiting Friends in Bellingham. My Friends Family loves Renate's Restaurant so they took me there because I craved my German Food. I had Jaegerschnitzel served with Spaetzle and one Potato Dumpling, my Friend had the Schnitzel Vienna Style with French Fries, my other Friend had the Gulasch with Mashed Potatoes. Everything was served with red Cabbage.... More

I agree with "Busybeemom24" that this little restaurant is amazing. I ate there with my family(son, sister and niece) and we were very happy with everything. I know food and the red cabbage, spaetzle, german potato salad were home made. The potato pancakes were flavorful and satisfying. The salads were a good size and quite tasty. The service (Patty?) was... More

I hate to see what you consider good food after reading your review of Renate's. Every time i have gone to Renate's the food has been amazingly delectable and piping hot!I also know for a fact that EVERYTHING they serve they make fresh everyday! More like the true reason for the hatefull review was that your cheap and are looking... More

We found ourselves in Lynden well after lunch time. Since we had missed lunch and were hungry we just checked with TA to find the best restaurant in town. The reviews took us to Renate's. It is a fairly small restaurant, with a number of four tops and one six top table. The decor is OK, with a slight tendency... More

My wife and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary and originally were going to a totally different restaurant with a French theme. This place was closed however, so we continued driving into Lynden and found Renate's German restaurant. We knew nothing about it but my wife enjoys everything German so we took a chance and went inside for lunch. The... More

We ate there this week and were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. We split the Reuben so we could order a side of spatzle and another of red cabbage. You cannot eat German food without the red cabbage--it just would not be right. The red cabbage was delicious and unlike any I have ever had before. The... More
