Description: This family-owned business has been bringing Bavaria to Leavenworth for...
This family-owned business has been bringing Bavaria to Leavenworth for over 25 years. The chef, Anita Hamilton, has been personally overseeing the kitchen since 1991 and is a native of Germany. The made-from-scratch desserts, soups and entrees are reminiscent of traditional Gasthaus fare. The owner, Heidi Forchemer, travels to Germany yearly for new menu ideas. Her son, Max, can be heard playing his button accordion most weekends, along with other local musicians, such as Tom Tilton of the Alpenfolk band. It simply doesn't get more authentic than this!

In a lower level, a delightful Germanic restaurant

The schnitzel is wonderful, of course. The rotisserie-baked hambone is a little tough to eat and slightly dry, but the bone and leftover meat makes a wonderful soup. Not to miss, if you are at least 21: the house version of an Irish coffee. The best I have ever had.

Thank you for your kind review of our cozy and traditional restaurant. The Schweinshaxe is an acquired taste - many people love it but others prefer other cuts of pork. I think you made the most of it, and I'm really glad you loved your Hunter's Coffee. We hope to serve you again some day and, "Auf Wiedersehen!" More

I read all the great reviews and my husband's family said it was wonderful several years ago, so we thought we would give it a shot while we were in Leavenworth for Valentine's Day weekend. Upon entering down the stairs, it looked amazing. Our hostess was friendly, and we got seated in one of the beautiful booths. Our waitress was... More

We thank you for taking the time to review our 25-year-old family restaurant, which I have owned since 1995. It made me very sad to learn that you think we grill our Jägerschnitzel in the microwave. I assure you we grill them on a grill and top them with authentic Swiss cheese and our made-from-scratch mushroom sauce (made by our... More

Super tasty, totally authentic. And I love accordion music. The son of the owner entertained us with his accordion. One of the best players I have ever heard in my life!!!

This place really reminded me of being back in Germany. The beer and food were great, service was top-notch, and the accordion music added a bit of authenticity. Seating was very good, but would prefer a booth next time...they were all filled when we got there. Had to have the apple strudel to finish off the meal. I was not... More

This was a great place for dinner. Our waitress was so nice, made suggestions, and gave us a little history of the Leavenworth area. My sister and I both really enjoyed our meals. Would go here again for sure.

We found this restaurant by chance as it is below ground. What a wonderful experience! Food was excellent and desserts were amazing. Everything was served perfectly. Wine was outstanding once we decided which one to have. We tried 3 before making a choice. Staff was excellent. Great experience. Plan to come again. Thank you for a great experience and such... Four of us ate here for dinner in January. The schnitzels were adequate, the bratwurst really good, and the spatzle (sp) light and delicious. The beer connaisseur in our group was very impressed with his dark draft. The accordion player was very loud and if we'd been in a more festive mood, we probably would have joined him in singing.

We enjoyed the live German folk music, the very Bavarian décor and food. We enjoyed the schnitzel with red cabbage and spaetzle.

Very good! Highly recommend the Pork Schnitzel or the Beef Goulash with spatzel. Next time I would try the pork hock. Décor is very fitting for a Bavarian restaurant. Booths are made from huge barrels.

Good food - we like the schnitzel with noodles best. On busy nights (most weekends) plan to put your name in 1-2 hrs early

Thank you so much for your review. We are very glad you enjoyed your experience. While we can have a long wait during the busy festivals in Leavenworth, there are many weekends when there is little to no wait. Our village is beautiful all year and much quieter in the Spring and late Winter. Thank you again and Auf Wiedersehen! More
