Grandma's Kitchen!

We have been eating at The Boarding House for years. It looks like a kitchen/dining room in a boarding house, unmatched chairs, good solid tables and wood floors . The food is good "home cooking". A soup and sandwich of the day are included on a good lunch menu. Order, pay and sit down until they... read more

We have enjoyed The Boarding House for lunch since 1974. The signature salad and house dressing has not changed over all those years and continues to be my favorite thing to order. The crisp lettuce and marinated bean salad is served with bites of chopped turkey, ham, or half and half with salad dressing on the side and a slice... More

Very delicious, the potato soup is wonderful. Keep in mind the following; they are not open for many hours each day, there is always a line, and they only take cash or check. Still worth the experience for a piece of Issaquah tradition.

The Boarding House, in Gilman Village in Issaquah, is at the top of my list for a great lunch. Everything is homemade with delicious soups, excellent sandwiches and generous salads. The homemade desserts are the best. Great value for the money and the setting in an old house, with mismatched antique tables and chairs, makes one feel as if they... More

Fresh homemade meals, soup and salad specials are awesome! Lunch time seems to be the only time they are open. ;-(

We were directed by locals to go to The Boarding House on our visit to Issaquah. We were so glad we did. The restaurant is located in Gilman Shopping area, about 2 minutes from downtown. It was a lovely restaurant, old time feel with nice tables for outdoor seating. Our salad and sandwich was quite good and service was friendly.... More

This is a sandwich place. The interior decor is designed to mimic what probably was common for a roadside diner around Issaquah circa 1900. I had never been in an establishment like this, and found the decor very interesting Service was excellent and staff was extremely pleasant and friendly. Food was OK. The bread on the bottom of my Reuben... More

The Boarding House has been an Issquah fixture for years, and you can always count of excellent food. Fresh salads, soups made daily, delicious desserts, all served in an old house that has been converted to a restauant. Charmingly mismatched chairs and tables, and the feel of Grandma's summer house.

You can count on very good, often excellent, food here. Today may have been my least satisfying visit yet it was still pretty good. Delicious cabbage/bean soup but served barely warm. Normally wonderful turkey sandwich today served on "meh" bread and slathered with cranberry jelly instead of accompanied by a lovely side of whole cranberry sauce. Hope it's a temporary... More
