The real taste of Italy

Dined at Montalcino's several times and is one of the top restaurants I ever had and have the pleasure to do so. I have been to many great restaurants living in some of the best culinary cities I the world for work purposes which I might add is in the food purchasing business. I felt somewhat... read more

Visited Montalcino for my wife's 60th birthday last week. As usual, the food and service were expeptional. My wife had her favorite appetizer, caprese, heirloom tomatoes with buffalo mozzarella. I had the anti pasta sampler. For dinner I had the lamb shank which was cooked to perfection, with a wonderful brown mushroom sauce. My wife chose the special wild boar... More

Full disclosure: I am Italian, and I lived for five years in Tuscany ('montalcino' is in Tuscany). I found the food not being Italian. For instance the sauce of my pasta with 'frutti di mare' was just too excessive, I.e., it had too many ingredients- no way can find something like that in Italy. Also, I had a glass of... More

Thank you for visiting my restaurant. I lived in Montalcino, Toscana 46 years of my life and you should know in Italy recipes not only change from community to community but from household to household and we use recipes that have been in my family for generations. That’s not to say we don’t change them from time to time because... More

I've eaten in several Italian restaurants all over the world - including Montalcino, Italy.. This little gem in Issaquah takes no back seat to the best - anywhere. Very small, intimate setting, so reservations are a must. Salads are authentic, rustic and perfectly prepared. The special of the evening was short ribs and served with with a great variety of... My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful meal and dining experience. The small, intimate setting gave us the feeling of dining in the family's dining room. Our meal selections were from the menu and specials for the day and were both spectacular. The musical host Tony added a nice personal touch, serenading us at the table with a favorite Sinatra... It was a great evening. Good ambiance, every dish was delicious (we were a group of four). Large portions. Great wine. Great music. Highly recommend.

Food was very good (heck, my dad, a non-vegetable person, enjoyed the carrots and asparagus). Quiet (really you can have a conversation), and great staff. Will return

If you've ever dreamed of going to Italy the experience their fresh, farm to table cuisine, you can get a real taste of true Italian cuisine without getting on an airplane! Plates are generous and use only the finest/freshest ingredients. The atmosphere is reminiscent of a Tuscany restaurant. The owners and servers are top notch!

There is no way to do this food justice here! The food was so amazingly well prepared I am at a loss for words to describe it! A bit pricey but worth it! Eat here you will be pleased!

Romantic dinner...fresh pasta, seafood and lovely wine from their Italian family vineyard. Great menu selection and large portions. Complimentary house made cheese and a little dessert wine to finish the meal. A gem in downtown Issy!
