Wonderful and reasonably priced on Orcas Island

We first stopped at The Inn at Ship Bay restaurant since it rated highly on tripadvisor - but quickly decided it was too snooty and expensive ($25 charge for uncorking a bottle of wine???) - so we left. We then drove by the West Sound Store & Café and stopped in. The hostess was much friendlier... read more

don't miss this spot .....other than the frazzled front room staff (who kept talking about he "weak-link" in their co-worker and how he/she was making their life miserable that night- that was awkward! ) , this is a great place for quality fine dining and nice ambiance and view on Orcas/ Eastsound (if you have a car, it is 20... Don't let the name of the place dissuade you ("Store & Cafe"). This is a restaurant. A "store & cafe" implies to me one of those places where you order at the cash register and have a line of people standing next to your table waiting to check out. The West Sound Cafe is not one of those places. It... More

This restaurant is in a quaint setting down by the water away from the main part of the island. If we had gone during the day it might have been better. Bare in mind the place closes at 9 and we got there about 8:30 so the rest of this review will probably be tainted by that. The Restaurant can't... More

Beautiful views. Great food. Fairly Reasonable prices ( $10-15 for lunch). A delightful experience. Service was relaxed ( a little slow), so if you're in a hurry, this might not be the place to go.... But then who is in a hurry on Orcas.,

The esquites, roasted corn, was an amazing start. We shared tender, tasty sockeye salmon with Harissa roasted yams AND fish tacos (epic on our perennial search for the best). Highly recommend dinner here!!

The location of the cafe is beautiful and the hostess was very welcoming. We waited a long time for our food and when it came it was a disappointment. My husband's shrimp pasta was dry and the minuscule number of shrimp were not shelled. My portabella burger was fine but the French fries were limp.

We sat outside on a windy/chilly night, but enjoyed the lovely view of the water. The fish was great, the burger as well, and the service friendly. There is a good wine list and bar. If you plan to dine at a busy time, consider making a reservation. There is a small parking lot. Slightly pricey (my burger was around... More

Small but interesting and varied menu. They offer seating on a deck overlooking West Sound marina. We all ordered the chicken dish. It was slow to come out of the kitchen, but worth the wait. Make a reservation on weekends, this small place is quite popular.

Chef Joe of the West Sound Cafe has an eye to Cajun and Mediterranean cuisine, neither of which is common on Orcas island. His dishes are thoughtful with surprising combinations, and are always well-made from largely local ingredients.
