Great food

More tex-mex style food than Mexican but great food and atmosphere, friendly staff. The bench seats seemed like they could use a lift but the decor made up for it.

We have tried numerous mexican food places in the past but have found El Gitano's to be the best. The service can be slow sometimes but it is worth it for the food. Very authentic. The prices are great. The atmosphere is really cool as well.

The lunch I ordered at El Gitano was their #19 combo - Chile relleno and taco. I expect a chile relleno to be a fresh green chile stuffed with a jack or mild cheddar cheese, battered, and deep fried. I guess what was in there was a chile, but it surely was not green. It was brown, perhaps roasted and... More

I went there with three other ladies on an hour and a 1/2 limit. That seemed plenty of time for drinks and dinner, but sadly was not. We ordered 3 tequila spicy margaritas and 1 vodka spicy margarita because of a tequila allergy, vodka replacement was the suggestion from our waiter. It took 20 min for our drinks to come... More

Lunch specials are perfect size. Wait-staff is friendly and prompt. Food is hot when served and other than needing to request the roasted jalepeno garnish, the Carne Asada is an excellent meal. When shopping in Mt. Vernon and Burlington, this is the only restaurant of our choice. Parking can be a bit "dicey" but it's no charge and off the... More

Situated in old town Burlington. Bright and colourful. Looks like a fixture by the newspaper clippings. Busy most of the time , a good sign for value and tasty food. Had dinner for 2 complete with imported beer for under $30. Portions were generous and I ended up not finishing, regrettably. Competes against several larger more modern restaurants that our... We decided on El Gitano after reading some reviews, and I'm glad we did! Very cool looking decor, and the people were very friendly. It was a Tuesday night, not a ton of people there, but they we were seated right away and they kept a close eye on us. The food was very good, and the margaritas were some... More

This was our first time to the Burlington EG, having been to the one in Mt Vernon often. There were four of us and we all tried different entrees. It was all good and tasty. Basic, standard, but well prepared and served. The service was excellent, helpful in recommending choices, and prompt in keeping the beverages coming. Enjoyable. We were... More

If our experience at El Gitano was anything to go by, then the fact that it is the 3rd best restaurant in Burlington says more about eating in Burlington than anything else. There is a theory that the further away you go from the Mexican border, the less likely you are to have amazing Mexican cuisine. I come from the... More

Standard Mexican fare. We walked in and waited a bit before someone noticed we were waiting to be seated, but once seated, things went smoothly. Great combo dishes, good prices. Wished they were a little busier. I always feel uncomfortable when there are only a few tables seated in the entire restaurant, Highly recommend if you want standard Mexican food.
