Located in historic building over a hundred years old and adjacent to city park space for nearly 30 years, the Colophon Cafe is the true heart of Fairhaven. We strive for fresh and delicious food, offering five homemade soups a day, fresh salads and good old comfort food with the best French dips, pulled pork and potpies. Our bakers make all our goodies from scratch. We are undergoing a remodel and expansion in early 2014 and are excited to see you soon!

We stop here en route to Seattle on most of our North-South trips. Soup is homemade and hardy. Sandwiches are built from local/organic ingredients and well presented. Portions are negotiable. Service is friendly and attentive. It's easy to linger here.

Be sure to make a stop at this Cafe in the lower level of Village Books -- one of the most unique independent stores you are likely to encounter. The atmosphere is casual and unhurried. On summer evenings, you can sit outside on the patio and enjoy the "village green" -- a local gathering place great for people watching .... More

We used to eat here often in the 80's when Village Books was big and the Cafe was small. We loved the food then and we love it now. My husbands favorite is the African Peanut soup. I had a half sandwich but I can't remember the name. It had turkey, bacon, cheese, avocado, tomato and lettuce. I skipped the sprouts.... More

Some of the best coffee we've ever had. A nice place for a lite snack or a good meal. The service was very good and attentive.

DrDSM, Thanks for your recent review of our coffee (the little secret of the Colophon Café)! We pride ourselves on serving Caffe Umbria out of Seattle. It is organic and fair trade, which we feel is important. It is full of body and a unique flavor profile, prepared by our trained staff. It is unlike anything you will taste at... More

The food was good, the prices were higher than normal. The waitstaff belongs in Theater. Just eating here and reading about how green they are you feel you must have helped save the planet by eating a meal there. Great Location, great patio seating. Kind of stuffy on a hot day. We have eaten there twice in the last 4... More

A visit to Fairhaven in Bellingham we once again visited Colophon. Little too chilly for outside dining but inside we were greeted and seated promptly. Our server, Moira, was extremely pleasant. Very accommodating and humorous. We settled for chowder and chicken pot pie. All arrived steaming hot large portions and very tasty. We'll be back

Goldwingman, Thank you for your recent review of the Colophon Café! We are glad you had a positive experience in a world where customer service seems to be lacking. We love Moira so much that we made her a manager so that she can pass on her positive vibe. We hope that we will see you again next time you... More

You know - the one with cows & the knickknacks & the local art. Instead I found a depressingly blah remnant of what was once my favorite Fairhaven haunt. There is nothing cheery about it anymore. That being said, the food was fine. I had a half bagel with cream cheese, smoked salmon, sprouts & a tomato. I do like... More

Trawlerdox, I am sad to hear that you miss the "old" Colophon Café! It is a place that has been in Fairhaven for 30 years. Unfortunately with all the new and shiny places popping up all around us, it was looking, well...30 years old. We have been very happy with the remodel which includes an expansion, huge booths, recycled and... More

Wonderful soups and sandwiches and the service was the best. Maybe slightly overpriced, but in the heart of a "tourist center" like Fairhaven, about what you should expect. Very relaxed place, and the fun and friendly staff really makes me want to go back, and I will. Try the soup sampler with a 1/2 sandwich and you'll be stuffed.

4dafun, Thanks for your recent review of the Colophon Café. This café started 30 years ago in the sleepy little hamlet of Fairhaven and catered to the local college town populous in a relaxed atmosphere. Now, as you have noted, we are in the middle of a tourist destination and a booming local neighborhood. We think we are doing it... More

My Mom, 8 year old son, and I had lunch here in April 2015. In the bottom floor of a large building, the pillars, brickwork, and stained wood made it feel like we were in another time, and the menu was full of interesting things to eat! We loved the soup sampler, an idea that I'd not seen before. Service... More
