Not NOLA, but still awesome

Cajun restaurants are as tough as Mexican. You either get authentic taste, or you don't. Atmosphere quite busy and convivial - friendly wait staff. We (my husband) had Hush Puppies which I think is a very unhealthy food. I didn't like them. Gumbo and oysters were just delicious. Authentic... read more

The quality of the food was mixed but only two of six dishes were good. They were the sweet potato fries (average) and the Gumbo (quite good). There were definite problems with the others. It was a typical weekday 1 PM lunch crowd (fewer than ten tables occupied) but the service was very slow. We noticed after ten minutes without... More

We stopped in for brunch on a beautiful Sunday after a recommendation by a local. The service was generally disinterested - our server spent more fussing with her sunglasses than anything else - and unprofessional. And - if you're going to carry a bar towel on your apron strings it should be clean not a filthy rag. The food -... More

New Orleans / Cajun influenced menu. Food was average to a bit above average. Cajun flavors were real. Our server, however, was exceptional and quite polished. Very memorable presentation of the menu and convincing recommendations. The mac n cheese with crab was especially good, as was the warmed spinach and bacon salad.

Had a great Sunday brunch for Five people. This restaurant is in the older part of Bellingham and has great character with the quirky decor and floors. The food was outstanding! The service was awesome. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The food is tasty enough to keep me coming back. We will return!

Bellinghamsters are a hardy bunch. We went to the Bayou on a Friday night when the breeze was blowing hard and the weather wouldn't choose its evening attire. I couldn't believe how many people elected to dine outside - and they weren't even smokers - but we chose a tiny wedge of a table on the direct flight path of... More

Spice levels are generally lower than what I've experienced in the deep south but still very proper to the style and much easier on my aging guts! I liked this place a lot. Went in for just a beer and oyster shooters but after checking out the food the wait staff was carrying by...... This place really did remind me... More

The Gumbo and Jambalaya are as good or better than any we had in New Orleans. The Bayou on Bay is a comfortable, clean, enjoyable restaurant. We enjoyed the food and the service. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are generous. We will return!

I liked place even though it's a little run down. But I loved the food. The whole thing just kind of works. Oh and the prices were not bad either.

I have been to this restaraunt many times. What keeps me coming back is the home cooked nature of the foods and the very reasonable pricing. My favorite is the biscuits and gravy. Very flavorfull and filling. Their muffaletta sandwhich is second to none. They have an adjacent oyster bar for those so inclined. The atmosphere is simple and rustic.... More
