This gem of restaurant is a must visit whilst in Winchester! Our Innkeepers recommended La Niçoise Café for my recent birthday dinner. Tres magnifique! The owner/chef, Frederic, is delightfully comical and brings years of experience to his menu. I enjoyed a Beaujolais Village with my appetizer of African sausages and shrimp. It's a recipe M. Frederic has been preparing since... More

After horrible try in Jan 2011, was back b/c a friend was treating for lunch. Pros: very tasty offerings, Provincial french, lovely atmosphere, linen table covers. Good coffee. Quiet. Cons: server knew NOTHING about menu. At first felt empathy for her, but after the 3rd trip to kitchen (do the entrees come with a salad? was a stumper) we felt... More

Found on Trip Advisor and I convinced my husband it was worth the trip ( off the interstate, we were just passing through). Tiny with exposed brick walls. Had leek and potato soup, yummy, and softshell crab entrees. It WAS worth it!

If you are looking for haute cuisine, you will not find it here. What you will find is a restaurant run by a competent French chef who prepares the basics. We enjoyed tasty meals of perfectly-cooked duck breast and orange-glazed salmon. Portions were adequate, each dish included unusual sides, and the server and other diners were friendly. We felt like... More

Although we had to wait behind a party of 20+ people, it was worth it. Situated in picturesque Winchester's downtown, La Nicoise is the family run Mediterranean stop that is worth your time. The grilled asparagus appetizer was very tasty and the lamb sandwich was a great and delicious surprise. The scallops were well prepared, the sauce was excellent, and... More

Had lunch with a friend. We both had the seafood and mushroom crepe - it was OK, but couldn't detect a lot of seafood. Was served with rice, and would have been much nicer with a little salad. But the taste was good. We shared a grand marnier crème brulee which was delicious! There were a number of things on... More

Driven by many times but never stopped. So in our search we decided to check this place out. The menu is French as is the owner/chef. We were greeted and seated. They were not busy but that is not surprising at lunch time with its location. We had the pate which was ok (out of New York) but I hadn't... More

We were pleasantly surprised to find such authentic French cuisine in VA, USA. Make sure to order dessert even if you think your delicious entree was very filling. Friendly chef and attentive staff.

This restaurant is just the best of both worlds. Expect carefully crafted, well-portioned French cuisine, wines, and beers as well as first rate desserts and dessert wines. That said, there is nothing cold or intimidating about the restaurant itself. This is a restaurant with a soul - you can relax and enjoy yourself and still feel like your someplace special.... More

This charming little restaurant is an absolute must! I was delighted when the owner took a break from cooking and came out to speak with the customers. He was charming and funny and made the dining experience even more fabulous than it already was. The food was delicious and decadent. I had one of the specials, which was jumbo scallops... More
