We dined last night at La Nicoise for our anniversary. The wait staff was attentive, but not in your face. The food was very tasty. The owner/chef comes out of the kitchen to check on the quality of the food and the experience. The french onion soup was delicious. The sauce on my beef was exquisite. My husband also enjoyed... My travel companion and I were greeted by chef/owner Frédéric who treated us as if we were the only clients in this quaint, warm dining gem in historical downtown Winchester. I ordered the dish that will make or break many good restaurants in France: the steak/frites. I've been eating less and less meat but still enjoyed a perfectly cooked medium-rare,... More

This place was recommended by our innkeeper. The decor is quaint and the food delicious! We had the plum/brie hors d'oeuvre, crepe, and pork saltimbocca. The crust on the creme brulee was a little thick, but we were delighted with our meal! The owner's son waited on our table very professionally and was very personable.

After driving for a few hours on Highway 81 we needed to stop and eat. We were near Winchester so we decided to find a nice restaurant in the old town. After driving at random we ended up at the Nicoise Cafe. We liked the decor on this nice street with old red-brick houses. Inside, the restaurant is simple and... More

We almost missed this place because it is not on the historic mall, it is on the outer rim of the historic area. The service was great. The menu offered a nice variety of selections. The atmosphere was authentic. The food was prepared exquisitely. The price was reasonable. I really hated to pass on the chocolate mousse but the main... More

We dined here once for lunch and found the establishment to indeed have the feel of an authentic French cafe.

This restaurant is small and a little off the beaten path, ( a block behind the walking mall downtown), but the decor is authentic, the food is authentic and the staff is very very nice. We had the scallops and shrimp appetizer and thought we had died and gone to heaven. Then the lamb chop special and my husband had... More

La Nicoise is a cafe, not a cordon-blue five-star french restaurant. But it is very pleasant and unexpected in Winchester. I wrote a review a couple of weeks ago but somehow must not have submitted it. So I don't remember our entries but the food was fine and it is a pleasant place and worth seeking out. Frederic and his... More

Greeted by a young waitress who voiced disappointment at the abrupt end to her cigarette break, we were lead to a table by the window in an empty restaurant. The waitress was able to (and did) carry the conversation all the way to the other side of the establishment when she went to fetch drinks. I immediately questioned my decision... More

Owner-chef Frederic and his son are running this little gem of classic French cuisine in Winchester. Frederic has brought his native Cote d'Azur all the way from France to the USA. The quality of the cuisine astonished us: the seafood vol-au-vent and crab ravioli in a beautiful Portobello mushroom and white wine sauce and the seafood crepes were outstanding, as... More
