Who would have thought of going to Winchester, VA for a great French dinner. My wife and I have travelled all over the world and have dined in great restaurants from New York to Beijing. But this little café sets the standard for great bouillabaisse and paella. The owner is the chef and he has carried his mother's recipes with... More

Chef owner makes us feel like we are family visiting his French kitchen. Food is always tasty, and prepared as we like. Chef makes special adjustments to our taste or dietary restrictions. As a couple, we always feel special. Every guest we brought has enjoyed a special meal. Small, cozy restaurant. One block from pedestrian mall.

In a strange town, not sure about recommendations, we picked this as our spot for dinner because it looked warm and welcoming as we drove by earlier in the day. So Thankful we did. The staff was welcoming and very professional Their recommendations were spot on The owner/Chef came to each table to make sure everyone was satisfied. Our dinners... More

The old saying that first impressions are important applies here. From the first interaction, the server was detached, and she seemed uninterested in her job. Perhaps she was just having a bad day. We don't need to have a smiling server anyway, so that's not very important to us. But after we ordered, a basket with some slices from a... More

....of the owner and wait-staff. Sometimes they get backed up and it shows in the frenziness of the owner coming out into the dining room and making a plea for everyone to hold on as he is the only one back in the kitchen that night. Over the past 3 years, I've never seen the dining area half full as... More

We dined last night at La Nicoise for our anniversary. The wait staff was attentive, but not in your face. The food was very tasty. The owner/chef comes out of the kitchen to check on the quality of the food and the experience. The french onion soup was delicious. The sauce on my beef was exquisite. My husband also enjoyed... My travel companion and I were greeted by chef/owner Frédéric who treated us as if we were the only clients in this quaint, warm dining gem in historical downtown Winchester. I ordered the dish that will make or break many good restaurants in France: the steak/frites. I've been eating less and less meat but still enjoyed a perfectly cooked medium-rare,... More

This place was recommended by our innkeeper. The decor is quaint and the food delicious! We had the plum/brie hors d'oeuvre, crepe, and pork saltimbocca. The crust on the creme brulee was a little thick, but we were delighted with our meal! The owner's son waited on our table very professionally and was very personable.

After driving for a few hours on Highway 81 we needed to stop and eat. We were near Winchester so we decided to find a nice restaurant in the old town. After driving at random we ended up at the Nicoise Cafe. We liked the decor on this nice street with old red-brick houses. Inside, the restaurant is simple and... More

We almost missed this place because it is not on the historic mall, it is on the outer rim of the historic area. The service was great. The menu offered a nice variety of selections. The atmosphere was authentic. The food was prepared exquisitely. The price was reasonable. I really hated to pass on the chocolate mousse but the main... More
