An unexpected pleasure

My wife and I are confessed foodies, and we were blown away by the meals we had at Violino in Winchester....my wife had the best seafood stew with linguini [Lo Scoglio] she has ever had in her life, and my veal [Saltimbocca Con Porcini] was wonderful, with the imaginative touch of having the... read more

a traditional italian menu done with artisanal style, and done very well. far more appealing then chain-store versions of "italian" & worthy of respect.

I'be eaten my way across Northern Italy, and this restaurant would fit right in. Branzino, rabbit ( a bit too much rosemary, but tasty), polenta, gnocchi... Antipasti including many cured meats and zucchini flowers. Be certain to make a reservation. More expensive than pizza and gooey pasta restaurants, with Italian-style smaller portions. No Scropino or Spritz Aperol, but I give... More

We picked Violino's because it was in the pedestrian mall on Loudoun street and because it was rated among the top 10 for Winchester. We were unimpressed. The appetizer was a selection of local meats served with honeydew melon and fresh parmesan cheese and was pretty good. The main dishes were interestingly prepared but not all that tasty. The lamb... The decor and service service are exactly what one would expect in a fine dining restaurant. However the essential thing was missing, flavorful food. The salad of arugula, radicchio and apple was fine, but would be near impossible to make otherwise; just chopping, not "cooking". The vegetable lasagna took a long time to come, and was bland, and overly rich... More

Tom and I were staying at the nearby George Washington Hotel. Of all things, a gentleman in the hotel elevator gave us the recommendation to eat at Violino's located in Old Town Winchester, just a couple of blocks away. Little did we know that this dinner was going to become a lifetime memory. We entered the restaurant through an arbor... More

The meal was fantastic, the service was excellent and we got a window table for a view of the walking mall. The Osso Bucco is outstanding. I also highly recommend the Anti-pasto with venison, wild boar, duck and Italian cured hams. Also the peach gespacho soup is excellent. The soft bread is very good as was the chocolate soufle dessert.... More

I had just returned from Korea and I hadn't had good wine, cheese, or pasta for a while. (sorry Korea) My girlfriend mentioned this restaurant so we organized an trip from DC. Well worth the drive the place is situated in a cute little main st; even though it got a little loud we still enjoyed the setting. For appetizers... More

We happened upon this Italian gem by accident as we were traveling and spent the night in Winchester. The food was out of this world! We started with the Radicchio & Arugula Alla Friulana salad. My wife had the soft shell crab and linguine while I had the braised rabbit with soft creamy polenta. I have not had polenta that... More

We are so glad that you found us. There are so many delicious and regional dishes that it is hard for us to choose which ones we like best. At least every time you come you can have something different :) Ci vediamo presto e grazie! More

This truly was one of the best Italian meals we have had. Each of the meals --- seafood, Bolognese, Carabonaro --- all outstanding. The co-owner welcomed us and was very attentive - buy not in our way. She, husband and son have been in USA 27 years everything is homemade --- pasta, sauces and all. Ambiance is 5* and we... More
