I try to make it a point to have dinner at the Fat Canary during my annual trip to Colonial Williamsburg. The restaurant is attached to the Cheese Shop (and deli). The food is fit for foodies, and the specials are interesting. The spirits selection, especially the bourbon, is impressive. The foie gras appetizer and the Oysters Rockefeller were sublime.... My husband and I had dinner here while on a visit to Colonial Williamsburg. It is in a nice location, but very small. The staff was very nice, and very attentive. Fortunately, we made our reservation for right after they opened, so the restaurant wasn't too busy for most of our meal. By the time things started picking up though,... More

An excellent choice in Williamsburg. The food selections are unique and delicious. Service is attentive, quick - not rushed - and informative. Wine list is extensive, however, the choices for wines by the glass are somewhat limited. Not a venue for young children. The executive chef certainly has a flare for special and imaginative combinations that are exquisite - ex.... More

As part of our year long celebration of our 50th Wedding Anniversary we had dinner at The Fat Pelican. Our dinner was truly memorable. We began with a glass of champagne. As an appetizer my husband ordered the lightly crusted Rappahannock oysters, which we shared. As entrees I had the Duck Breast with Rye Spätzle, Turnip, Swiss Chard and Black... More

We went two nights in a row. I had the grouper special the first night and the pork chop the second. The grouper preparation changes frequently. I was fortunate, given my dairy allergy, that this night the preparation was a dairy-free Thai curry. It was flavorful and delicate. The pork chop was perfectly cooked -- not dried out, but not... We enjoyed our meal to be sure, but were slightly disappointed in that there was such a hype around this restaurant. A pleasure, but not memorable.

We dinned here for the first time after several trips to Williamsburg. Our son is a chef so we understand the complexities of fine dinning on a busy night. This restatraunts is a labor of love . From the way we were seated, the friendly waitress and the impeccable timing and presentation of our meal we were amazed how all... More

Our fifth night in Williamsburg and we finally had a great dinner. We had the most fabulous parsnip soup as a first course. I had sea scallops (five!) with smoked tomatoes, a lovely couscous with sweet peas, green beans, and pork belly. My husband had the best pork chop he has ever had...cooked to perfection... with a goat cheese souffle,... More

Visited in January and had dinner at the Canary...and wow did it make us sing 🐥!! From the time we were greeted warmly at the door the service was impeccable...and the food outstanding. Parsnip soup special was very special and the Foie Gras the best I've ever had (and I have been to Paris many times). The Lamb Shank entree... More

The food at the Fat Canary will certainly surprise the average patron. You would not expect such scrumptious dishes in the heart of the historic section of Colonial Williamsburg.
