This is a very fine restaurant in the Merchants Square section of Colonial Williamsburg. One doesn't need to dress-up, but you better make reservations on weekends, holidays, or during major events of the local college. It fills quickly. We have never had a bad meal (or anything) here. I love their out-of-the-ordinary dishes, like rabbit, pheasant or quail. Their ginger... More

Fat Canary as always was wonderful and saved our Valentines evening while we were visiting Williamsburg. We began our evening at a other restaurant and left after not being served for ninety minutes. We called the Fat Canary to see if they had any seats at the bar for a quick bite. We had two appetizers -- House-made Mozzarella, Edward’s... More

You need to make reservations all in advance. Food was excellent. There is a vegetable platter not on the menu of about 10 different item. Macadamia nut pie was amazing. Espresso ice cream had wonderful flavor but a bit of an icy texture.

As a local, I have had meals in all the better restaurants in Williamsburg. This one is simply the best. I love the ambience, slightly noisy, clubby...the food outstanding, especially their seafood. The service is 1st class..(hint: ask for Tink)...wonderful bar..on Duke of Gloucester St.

I try to make it a point to have dinner at the Fat Canary during my annual trip to Colonial Williamsburg. The restaurant is attached to the Cheese Shop (and deli). The food is fit for foodies, and the specials are interesting. The spirits selection, especially the bourbon, is impressive. The foie gras appetizer and the Oysters Rockefeller were sublime.... My husband and I had dinner here while on a visit to Colonial Williamsburg. It is in a nice location, but very small. The staff was very nice, and very attentive. Fortunately, we made our reservation for right after they opened, so the restaurant wasn't too busy for most of our meal. By the time things started picking up though,... More

An excellent choice in Williamsburg. The food selections are unique and delicious. Service is attentive, quick - not rushed - and informative. Wine list is extensive, however, the choices for wines by the glass are somewhat limited. Not a venue for young children. The executive chef certainly has a flare for special and imaginative combinations that are exquisite - ex.... More

As part of our year long celebration of our 50th Wedding Anniversary we had dinner at The Fat Pelican. Our dinner was truly memorable. We began with a glass of champagne. As an appetizer my husband ordered the lightly crusted Rappahannock oysters, which we shared. As entrees I had the Duck Breast with Rye Spätzle, Turnip, Swiss Chard and Black... More

We went two nights in a row. I had the grouper special the first night and the pork chop the second. The grouper preparation changes frequently. I was fortunate, given my dairy allergy, that this night the preparation was a dairy-free Thai curry. It was flavorful and delicate. The pork chop was perfectly cooked -- not dried out, but not...
