Best place to grab lunch

This is by far the best place to grab lunch near the attraction. Be aware it is very busy and the lines are long but it is worth it.

LOVE The Cheese Shop! Easy ordering, plenty of choices, and even though there is limited indoor seating, they have lots of outdoor seating and if that is filled, there are PLENTY of benches around Merchant Square to enjoy your meal!

Great sandwiches in the heart of the Colonial area. But, during the tourist season, the crowds can be a turn off. Not only are the tourists pushing to get in, but the Cheese Shop is a favorite of locals and William and Mary students as well. A little secret: call in your order and bypass the crowds.

The sandwiches this place offers are superb. The high point for us however was the ability to purchase beer or wine at retail, then enjoy it on the patio overlooking on of the most historic streets in this country. Sounds wonderful right? I haven't even told you about the extensive wine selection downstairs!!! Make a stop here when you're in... More

I make sure to come every time I'm in Williamsburg. What a great place to shop for gourmet foods and cheeses, but you can't go without getting one of their delicious custom-made sandwiches. And don't miss out on their house-made dressing. The line may be long, but it's worth the wait!!!!

We visit Williamsburg every year at Christmas time (it is a half-way point for my family and my brother's family). We always stop at The Cheese Shop for lunch, and we have never (in 6 plus years) had a bad meal. It can get VERY crowded, and over the years we've learned the sandwiches and learned to call ahead and... More

Great concept of a small gourmet store, that offers fresh made sandwiches and much more. They also offer great selection of beer and wines. Perfect place to grab a snack and people watch.

A small shop with big ideas. This shop has an abundant supply of gourmet items. Everything from olive oils to mustards. A little pricey but the items are really inventive. They also sell fresh made sandwiches with a wide variety of upscale items. The cheese bar is incredible. My husband and I choose the cheese plate. Pick any 3 cheeses... More
