The Cheese Shop is an annual stop when we visit Williamsburg for our college homecoming. The sandwiches are still as delicious today as they were back in college. Impressive wine selection in the basement, as well as local and national craft beers by the bottle.

There is such a great selection of cheese here, you will find what you want and more. If you ask nicely, you will likely be able to try the cheese before you buy it.

A perfect place for a quick, tasty meal!! Located in the heart of Merchant's Square!! Plenty of seating; Dine in or outdoors under umbrellas. We ordered sandwiches at the counter located at the very back of the shop. Service was quick and accurate. Very generous portions and delicious!! Food is placed in cute wire baskets; pick up drinks and chips... More

Between the Williamsburg restored area and the College of William and Mary in Merchant's Square, this has to be the best value in Williamsburg. Made to order sandwiches are 6 to 8 dollars, most at the lower end of that scale. Many choices of meats, cheeses, and breads. The house dressing is amazing, but if I have any complaint it... More

Getting a Sandwich from the Cheese Shop is one of the reasons I like to go to Colonial Williamsburg. The bread is always fresh and their house made sauce is incredible. It’s so good we’ve bought some for home use on several occasions. My favorite sandwich is the country ham and turkey. My only complaint would be the lack of... More

If you are in colonial Williamsburg, this is the place to go for a sandwich. Although the line ups can be long, it's worth the wait. I'm fond of the Virginia ham and Edam on wheat bread with house dressing. You order and build your own sandwich, then enjoy it on the patio or one of the inside tables.

But the sandwiches are really nothing special. We waited 10 minutes for ours, and the dressing was very sparse. Also, our request to have the sandwiches toasted was denied.

Great sandwiches, lots of choices. Do not miss the wine cellar downstairs. Good selections to buy and bring home.

We waited 25 minutes directly in front of employees at cheese counter before even being acknowledged. We were eventually served and were charged $17 for 2 glasses of boxed wine. We were told we had to pay for the glasses and either keep them as a souvenir or return them when we were done for a $6 refund. When we... More
