Not just the new restaurant on the street

We were amazed to learn that Shield's Tavern has been open almost ten years already! After forty years of visiting Colonial Williamsburg, we think of Shield's as the new guy on the block. They have their act together well by now; the food and the entertainment are up to the usual standard. On... read more

My wife and I visited Williamsburg Va for Valentine's Day . We made reservations at Shields tavern through open table and the experience was great. The folks treated us right on time and seated us in the downstairs area. The dining room area was just as you would expect for an 18 th century tavern. The service from our waitress... More

They took us to basement wine cellar area for lunch seating. It was enlightened using real lanterns. Romantic and awesome ambiance inside but food was average for the price.

First of all, we were there for our 30th Anniversary and it was Valentine's Day. We dressed nicely and it definitely doesn't warrant dressing nicely at all.....we didn't know that up front, but that's our fault. We thought they would at least have a Valentine's themed dessert or something. We were happy with most of the experience, but there were... More

We ate here on Valentines night. We had booked a table for 9pm but arrived nearly an hour early and they managed to seat us. Everyone was very friendly. The food was interesting. We had the sampler for starters, to be honest a little disappointed. It was about $16 and most of it was average tasting. The beef pasties were... More

Very tasty vegetarian option. Staff dresses in time period attire. Staff knowledgeable about taverns history and can answer your questions regarding the tavern, history, etc. Lighting is dim if you are seated downstairs. Very cozy place. Loved it!

Dinner was delicious and the atmosphere was lovely. Enjoyed the music and candle light. We arrived later than our reservation, but were seated without issues.

We enjoyed Christmas Eve Dinner at Shield's Tavern. We had dined at Shield's multiple times over the years and always liked the authentic atmosphere and menu.Walking in from a cool evening to a roaring fire in the entrance/waiting room fireplace set the mood.We were a party of 8 and were seated in a side room off one of the many small... My family usually went here as the food is great and mr Shields would visit our table. He has since passed, but usually musicians will sing and spin a yarn in the many dinning rooms.

Food was a little expensive and not very good. This was our third and last trip to this tavern. Also tables are crowded and service slow. Liked the looks of the place and they had a shorter wait time than any of the other taverns. Wonder why!!!!!!
