It was a lovely setting and the staff was attentive, if not in "character", regardless of their dress. We could have been at a Waffle House for the the conversation. The three of of us ordered dinner and two of us enjoyed our choice. Unfortunately, I was glad I packed Immodium because one of us had a serious problem after... More

We had dinner at the shields tavern on a Saturday evening in early august...we had reserved a week ahead of time. I liked the building as we walked in, then they seated us in the cellar. The cellar is actually the remaining authentic part of the building and when you walk down there you can see the old mortared walls,... More

The atmosphere is fun and authentic. But the dinner entrees are all above $25 and the food is not that good. I understand the desire to go to a typical tavern when you visit Williamsburg, but I recommend going for lunch. You still have the experience but it is much more reasonable. At least they have a kids menu for... More

Went here for lunch just around noon was seated within 5 minutes. Service was excellent really felt like a tavern would have been in the colonial day. But as far as the food was nothing to write home about. I ordered the solomgundi salad(probably spelling this wrong) basically a chef salad for 16 dollars. Overall it's a nice place to... More

Shields is one of the restaurants that I want so badly to like. The atmosphere is top notch, often having live colonial musicians. But the food, although good, Iis not worth the price to me.

We were lucky to get in for lunch in time and happy we did (restaurants in the historic district can get packed). This was a great little spot to grab lunch and take a trip back in time. Our table was downstairs, which was dark, candlelit and charming. I loved that the downstairs area just seemed to go on and... More

Enjoyed a nice lunch here. The colonial atmosphere was great and we had a visit by a musician. All of the food was very good but a bit expensive. My DH had the daily special of country fried steak and mentioned later in the week that he would like to eat it again.

I went with my family to dine at the Shields tavern hoping to soak up some colonial atmosphere but we were disappointed to be seated in a cellar with no natural light, worse still, the cellar didn't smell very good either. My vegetarian leek and potato pie was not good, although my son said his pork dish was good. Our... More

On our recent visit to CW, the Shield’s Tavern “Jolly Pirate” dinner theater was fun. The show was downstairs in a lovely dining area and the waitstaff was dressed in colonial garb too. Dinner for all of us (Nana and 2 GKs) consisted of an apple salad followed by tender beef simmered in an absolutely delicious gravy with roasted carrots,... More

Went for dinner during out overnight in Williamsburg. The food was very good , not great. The drinks were also good. The armosphere is awesome. Loved the musicians wandering from room to room. Expensive , but so are all of the taverns in Colonial Williamsburg. If you like historical settings and good food this place will not disappoint.
