very good service and typical tavern food

Great atmosphere. Food and entertainment are similar to the other taverns I reviewed. Character costumed staff and candlelight add to the ambiance.

Loved the quaint dresses and the ambience of the Shield's Tavern. You feel transported to another world. The service was good and we hardly had any wait time. We just devoured our hot roasted turkey and Beef sandwiches and downed it with a root beer. But the best part was the entry of the seamstress of the town with her... More

The menu was posted outside the establishment. We had a 45 min wait but it was worth it. We each enjoyed something different on the menu. I had the hot turkey sandwich and it is not like you would think. I'll let you try it for yourself. My tween son and husband had a patriot hamburger that was very tasty.... More

We visited Shield's Tavern during Spring break and truly enjoyed many aspects of our dinner experience but definitely felt there were some areas for improvement. The positives: Shield's happily squeezed us in despite not having a reservation and kept our little dude singing and dancing happily while we waited outside for our table courtesy of a friendly singer in period... We enjoyed our lunch meal, which we also just popped in for. This time it was near the end of the lunch period, so there were tables available. My spouse had the root beer made from 18th century recipes, tho I thot it tasted good but not much different from other root beers that I have had. He had the... More

We had a wonderful lunch with typical prices for fine dining and got to experience Colonial times. The basement is also worth making a special trip to see the building structure. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was very unique. Very friendly people.

I had dinner here ten years ago and it was a memorable experience; the place was dark (candlelight) and atmospheric. We had lunch this time and I was disappointed. The service was slow and the food lackluster. Because of the limited hours in Williamsburg, a trip to Merchant Square might be a better option for lunch.

We visited Shields Tavern as part of a package I bought from our hotel in Williamsburg. They seated us (2 adults, 2 kids) in the basement area, which my husband assumed was because we had the hotel package. That was ok with me because the room was lit with candles and was very pretty. The room became full shortly after... More
