A Treat

We had reservations upstairs in the loft area. Very quaint. The staff was very friendly and the food was excellent.

I see that a lot of people liked their meal here, my wife and I did not. We ate a late lunch here with my kids on our day at Colonial Williamsburg. I ordered the most expensive meal on the menu (Shrimp Po Boy - $16). It was average at best. I felt like the shrimp were from a freezer,... More

Shield's Tavern's prices are a little above average, but all profits go to maintaining Colonial Williamsburg. Of all the taverns in the historic area, Shield's was built to comply with the Americans With Disabilities Act.

Great meal after the fireworks. Table was in the basement; very nice. Great service. Prix fixe menu was good. Reservations made as soon as available to ensure eating after the fireworks.

After a whole day of walking around Colonial Williamsburg, Shield's Tavern promised hearty colonial food. My daughter and I ordered the Seafood Potpie, my sister ordered the Dish of Pork and my son ordered the Ale-potted Beef. ALL were very hearty, chock-full of delishousness. Big pieces of shrimp, fish and scallops in the potpie. The crust was flaky and delicate.... More

A wonderful step back in time. Although not original building they have done their best to create a truly authentic experience. The food was delicious and the warm cider the perfect beverage for a cold, rainy day in February! The special was "bangers and mash" which was heartily enjoyed. The pasties were scrumptious however do not expect to make a... More

We were amazed to learn that Shield's Tavern has been open almost ten years already! After forty years of visiting Colonial Williamsburg, we think of Shield's as the new guy on the block. They have their act together well by now; the food and the entertainment are up to the usual standard. On this visit, there was a lady playing... More

My wife and I visited Williamsburg Va for Valentine's Day . We made reservations at Shields tavern through open table and the experience was great. The folks treated us right on time and seated us in the downstairs area. The dining room area was just as you would expect for an 18 th century tavern. The service from our waitress... More

They took us to basement wine cellar area for lunch seating. It was enlightened using real lanterns. Romantic and awesome ambiance inside but food was average for the price.

First of all, we were there for our 30th Anniversary and it was Valentine's Day. We dressed nicely and it definitely doesn't warrant dressing nicely at all.....we didn't know that up front, but that's our fault. We thought they would at least have a Valentine's themed dessert or something. We were happy with most of the experience, but there were... More
