Shield's Tavern is a really nice stop for a family lunch while you explore Colonial Williamsburg. The children enjoyed the selection on the children's menu and the fun beverage options. Our server was helpful and friendly. The food was good and filling, even for a growing teenage boy.

If you want to soak up the colonial atmosphere at Williamsburg, you definitely have to eat at the taverns. The ambiance was great and the staff attentive. We went at lunch. The food was tasty though a bit pricey. They accommodate larger groups and children. If you want to do for dinner, be sure to make a reservation - probably... More

I was skeptical when my husband wanted to eat here. Wait staff were nice, very accommodating to our young children. The nacho and other appetizer were decent, but the pizza and calzone really were delicious (and big!!).

Despite the fact they were very busy service was prompt. We had a large group and we were served quickly. Our servers were attentive. The food was good. We also enjoyed the piper who entertained us while we waited for our food.

For some reason when you tap the menus on the taverns listed here in colonial williamsburg on the trip advisor site the same menue comes up for all of them which is in correct. But while at the raver I had the potted beef which was a very tasty beef stew. Not so filling that you couldn't enjoy dessert. If... More

We ate at Shield's Tavern one night after touring the Revolutionary City. The ambiance was great. Loved the setting. The food, however, was less impressive. My beef meal was fair, but not worth the price. My wife's salmon was way overcooked, and though flavorful, dry as a bone. The lone plus was my son ate all his food and cleaned... More

Our first meal here and it was very good. Loved the historic tavern atmosphere. Staff dressed in period costumes were very friendly and attentive!

Finding the location even by my Google Map app was challenging. But, after parking and discovering the small sign we missed, across the street through the back garden we found the front entrance. Reservations were necessary as suggested by local friends. We were seated promptly in the basement and the atmosphere is colonial. Our order was: 1 small salad, 2... More

It's more about the atmosphere. The dining rooms are quaint and the glasses, plates, mugs are all "period" looking. The staff is friendly and helpful and the strolling musicians are charming. The food was good, no complaints but nothing to write home about either.

Had dinner during a visit with my son. We had reservations and were able to be seated in the cellar immediately. The staff was all very polite and had just the right level of attentiveness. The travelling music was fun, and really added to the atmosphere. Experience-wise, this was worth doing. Unfortunately for all, the food was a severe disappointment.... More
