Yummy place to eat Colonial

We very much enjoyed our meal. Our server was not very attentive but the food made up for it. We were already aware that a lot of the seating was in the dark basement so that was not an issue. Yes, it's darker and has no windows but it was also cooler which was good on a humid and hot... read more

I took my wife, two children and my mother-in-law for lunch at Shield's Tavern. The atmosphere was very fitting for the time period being emulated, however, the cost of the meal was very expensive for hot dogs and hamburgers.

Perhaps it's better on the weekend, however my 12 year old son and I visited on a Tuesday night. It wasn't too busy, but we were put at a small table in the back of the room. It was dinner by candle light, so being in the corner was especially dark and depressing. The rolls were awful, just a tasteless... More

This is excellent for atmosphere, but average for food. They took us to the basement, where everything was candlelight, which my kids thought was cool. Servers are dressed in colonial style and there was a traveling musician who sang and played his guitar at every table. We got there right before they closed for lunch, but they didn't rush us.... This is a review for the dinner theatre show in the servant station of the basement within Shield's Tavern. The show was fun, my 3 year old got a kick out of it - the Jolly Pyrate was not scary at all for the little ones. The cocktails were delicious - try the punch! The food left my husband starving... We really enjoyed the strong period authentic cocktails and dining in the wine cellar. There was also a musician playing a stringed instrument as we were eating. The tomato basil soup was a bit thicker than what I was expecting, but Mr. Shield's Apple Salat was scrumptious and filling on a hot day.

Eat here more for the atmosphere than the food. $12.75 for cafeteria style barbeque, $9.95 for 1/4 pound hotdog. Great place to cool down, but ridiculous prices. You would be better off walking three blocks and eating somewhere in Market Square.

Ate a few lunches at Shields. The food was tasty and good sized portions. We had the pulled pork sandwich, chicken fingers, fish-n-chips, fried shrimp sandwich, and the hamburger. All were very tasty. Be prepared as most of the dining facility is in the lower level and the ceilings are low as is the lighting.

Shields was the restaurant we chose for lunch on our first day in Colonial Willliamsburg. We had a 45-50 minute wait because a huge group of young travelers was being served. Luckily there were benches and shade trees outside the tavern to make the wait bearable. Once inside, we were seated upstairs and immediately attended to by cheerful costumed servers.... More

Great spot for a colonial style lunch. Be prepared to wait during peak season. I had the hot roasted turkey sandwich and it was delicious.
