The food was plentiful and pricing was reasonable. The wait staff very attentive and dressed in Colonial themed clothing. There was an actual fiddler who sang songs and provided us the history or meaning of why it was written. I would suggest going with friends and making it a nice evening out!

OK, I'm a cynic: for any holiday restaurant meal, I expect to pay too much for the ordinary-at-best. And I expect glitches and a semi- rushed atmosphere and being waited on by persons who SHOULD be getting three times the pay for holiday work. But our late- afternoon dinner here was nice, really. My once-every-two-years- maybe prime roast came as... More

In an era of electronic everything and Xtreme anything, it's amazing how much fun you can have in Colonial Williamsburg. You, and 92,000 of your best friends. We visited in December, and even though it was cold, the town and restaurants were very busy. We ate dinner at Shields Tavern, and it was a testimonial to quality in a high... More

This was a unique way to spend Christmas morning. The food was very tasty and different for breakfast. The service was excellent and the live music was nice.

The meals were very good but the setting for Colonial Williamsburg was excellent. A good variety of choices but the daily special, bangers and mash, was the best choice.

We enjoy dinning at the Taverns in Historic Williamsburg. The food is good, the service is great and the strolling musicians make for a fun experience.

I would advise going to any of the taverns earlier rather than later. Our party of four had barbecue pork and chicken sandwich. The owner's wife came by in her costume to tell us stories of her life and a fiddle player entertained us.

What better way to get an authentic dining experience than go to a building built in 1745 that continues to cook food as it was served at that time. Colonial Williamsburg goes to great lengths to meticulously research original historical documents to ensure accuracy in all that they do. Food is no exception! Our party started out with the Soup-of-the-Day... More

We had a wonderful, candlelit dinner at Shields Tavern. If you are looking for an authentic Colonial dining experience, Shields Tavern is the place. Our starters, entrées and desserts were delicious. The Pumpkin soup was velvety and flavorful. The Ale Potted Beef was tender and a favorite and the Braised Pork Shank was so tender it fell off the bone.... More

Food could have been hotter, but the selections were great and it tasted wonderful. They did not make a fuss when we showed up 30 minutes late for our reservation because of the traffic from DC. Genuine flavor of the colonial period.
