Located in what feels like an old house, this place does seafood well. We have gone here each time we visit Virginia Beach, and have never been disappointed.

The food was a 4.5. My "fish in a bag" was whitefish, shrimp and crabmeat which was steamed in a paper bag. A little bit of lemon added some zest to it. Not bad. But way too much rice on the side - to fill the plate. Wife's crab cakes were delectable. They came with some very flavorful sliced red... More

Really wanted to try this place but since there were 30-40 of us I called ahead and was told they "don't want that kind of business" since I was traveling with high school girls that are on a field hockey team together. Just thought they handled it poorly because they thought we wouldn't take care of their wait staff.

We must compliment our server, Jocelyn, on her knowledge of the food and spirits. Even in the off season on a week night, Tautog's was filling up by 6 p.m., obviously a local favorite. Our Guinness and Gouda fondue appetizer was a remembrance of decades past. Our Key Lime Pie was unsurpassed by anything we have had in Florida. A... More

This is a time honored restaurant and lines to dine are long even at the earlier setting, in off season. It took a bit of time for the waiter to come to take our order and a good 40 minutes to receive our food. One of the tuna dishes served to our party was spoiled - it was immediately apparent... More

Poke is cubed or cut fish mixejhd with spices and a bit of nori. At Tautogs they take this great dish one step further. Cubed sushi grade tuna is cubed, spiced the put in a on the rocks glass with quacamole on the bottom, excellent. Their she-crab soup is fantastic, its Virginia's version of clam chowder but better (sorry New... More

We dined here on a Saturday night in the off season and still had to wait 45 minutes for a table. The place was packed and even the hostess remarked that they were surprised that they were so busy in November. This is a cozy place to dine in an old 1920s beach cottage. It can be noisy but the... "Tog's as the locals call it is owned by Bill Gambrell who spends a lot of time at his restaurant and it shows. I didn't rate the meals as the "best I've ever had" since that distinction belongs to places like the "Inn at Little Washington" or the "Festival" in Cannes ,France. Of course both of these establishments cost 5-6... More

I have been dining here since they opened over 10 years ago. If you like good service and fresh, well prepared seafood, this is the place for you. It is not your typical seafood fry basket that you might expect to find in a coastal tourist town. As a matter of fact, they don't fry anything. There menu items have... More
