Local favorite that is great for visitors as well. Great breakfast right on the water at the Rudee Inlet. Was recommended to us by some locals and overheard at least 2 other people telling other visitors to go there during our 5 day stay. Great lunch and dinners also that feature daily blackboard specials. All desserts are homemade. Seafood, fresh meats, produce and dairy are delivered fresh everyday.

Great Food and excellent service

We came to Virginia Beach particularly to have the Bid Sam's crab balls that we had on a previous visit. They didn't disappoint. So good!

Once you can make peace with the wait time and awkward waiting area, you will never want to leave ( Hence the long wait at times) The place is the text book definition of what a relaxing dinner should be. Kids? Bring 'em. Loud kids? Bring 'em. Don't feel like changing from all day in the sun? Bathing suits welcome.... More

Enjoyed our she crab soup with large lump crab. Very large lump. Enjoyed our shrimp and grits. Very basic, no frills, filling. Beware of American Cheese on sandwiches.

Cool local place. My husband and I stopped by for drinks and a appetizer on an afternoon of exploring the inlet. The crab dip was heavy on the cheese, light on the crab, still was good though, just not what I was expecting. It's a busy place, obviously its a local and tourist favorite.

First of all though this restaurant is on the water (Rudee inlet) there is wood around the dining room between the upper and lower windows which prevented me from looking at the inlet. There were not a lot of egg choices for breakfast. The home fries were pre-packaged.The veggies in my omelet were minimal. Our waitress seemed unmotivated. She didn't... More

I visited Big Sam's last weekend with family. We've eaten there on previous visits to Va Beach and my teenage/early 20's sons and my husband liked it. This time our experience wasn't as good. My son and his girlfriend ordered quesadillas and I ordered crab dip. The dip just didn't have a great flavor. I've had better at other places,... More

Visited Big Sam's during a snow day for breakfast! It was definitely a nice, local place to sit down and enjoy breakfast on a cold snowy day with a nice view. The pancakes are HUGE!!! and they're so delicious!!!!! The special I had sausage links dipped in pancake batter and fried were pretty delicious as well! I also ordered a... More

While walking the boardwalk on our 26 years anniversary, I was checking restaurant reviews on my phone and noticed that one place had great reviews, Big Sam's, and we decided to give it a go. Leaving the car parked at the beginning of the boardwalk we took the stroll over to Sam's. Lucky for us it was Happy Hour and... More

After several years of stopping at Big Sam's it seemed a good idea to rate the place. Sam's provides delicious food at reasonable prices. It can be crowded, but if there is a wait simply stroll over to the register, order a drink and bide your time until a table opens. Of course the window seats facing Rudee Inlet are... More

Had wedge salad with shrimp for a reasonable price. Excellent, and would recommend. Easy to park in the off season and got a seat, but would expect it to be much busier most of the time.
