Do not eat here!

I have extensive experience eating in Thai restaurants all over the country. I live in Staunton and have eaten here four times, each time hoping for improvement. Orders were never correct, wrong dishes were served, but the owner insisted we ordered it and would not make correct food. We requested... read more

We've been to Ubon Thai in the past; our experience this weekend was wonderful beyond description. I was with a wedding party (17 people) got "bumped" from a downtown Staunton restaurant. Our host called Ubon. Without hesitation, Ubon replied "How many tables?" We arrived to find several tables all set for us. Ubon said "don't worry about menus, we'll fix... More

In August I spent four days in Staunton visiting friends. I wanted to take them out to dinner as a thank you for their wonderful hospitality, and they chose Ubon. So so glad they did. What a marvelous meal! We started with spring rolls that were filled with vegetables so fresh that they cannot have been out of the garden... More

The restaurant is in an old house on the hill with a parking in back that is very hard to find on the first pass-by. The parking lot and the walk-in to the restaurant is cluttered and unwelcoming as is the restaurant itself. Cloth flowers on the table with cloth mats that may or may not have been fresh. The... It had been some time since we had dined at Ubon Thai Victorian, but were pleased to see recent reviews were trending positive. The place was almost empty during the dinner hour on a Sunday, with one server on duty. The food was excellent -- one Seeda Lui Fai (basically shrimp in a coconut milk, garnishes, and 'Thai sauce') and... More

I lived in downtown Staunton for over a year, and didn't find this place until recently. We parked in the back parking lot and walked through this beautiful garden area. The entrance has a sign on top so it's easy to find the right door. When we walked in there was one other table eating dinner. I ordered the shrimp... More

The good news: the owners are very welcoming and friendly. Otherwise, we found the restaurant to be a bit cluttered with walls covered with photos and decorations, tables very close together - the place has a musty, unclean feeling. We were the only guests there. The table mats were not fresh.. Food was fairly good, but we were charged $1.99... More

The only reason I gave only 4 stars is we did not sample a large portion of the menu. The property is cool, quirky and historical. You must look carefully for the sign that tells you the parking is three more right turns if you are coming in from the East on Frederick. A right on N Jefferson, next right... More

My husband and I went there for lunch on my birthday. We had often driven by this beautiful old Victorian house and wanted to try it, especially we had never tried Thi food before. There appeared to be no one else there so were a little reluctant to try it. But try it we did. Mrs Ubon, the proprietor, warmly... More

During a vacation, I was able to taste the food at an Arts Festivals. The chicken kabob and rice combo was deliciously amazing. Added to that was the concoction of peppers and spices in a liquid melody to spoon over the the food. Yikes...it was hot, but good. Definitely authentic Thai in the valley.
