What a Pleasant Serendipity

We were in Staunton to see a play on Sunday afternoon and wanted lunch before we went to the theater. The sleepy downtown didn't look to have a lot of opened restaurants and at first we thought Emilio's was connected to the pizza place rather than a true restaurant. What a pleasant surprise to... read more

I have been dining here since it first opened under the former L'Italia name. Emilio is a wonderful chef and has trained his kitchen staff to properly prepare each dish as though he did it himself. Everything is made in house and to order, my favorites being the fried calamari appetizer, chicken marsala followed by tiramisu and coffee. The wine... More

We very much enjoyed the deliciius food and friendly service. We were recommended to sit downstairs, which we did (didn't see upstairs).

this restaurant is a gem! we both started with soup, 2 different soups and they were both delicious. the dinners were wonderful, very generous portions prepared by someone who is very talented chef. we didn't expect to find such a quality meal in staunton. we would highly recommend dining here, don't think you will be disappointed. also, the service was... We were here during JMU graduation, and they were able to easily acoomodate 8 for a walk in on Saturday evening. We were upstairs, where there were large seating areas. The decor was dated, and we did walk through some smokey areas, but neither of those affected our dining experience where we atually were seated. All diners thouroughly enjoyed their... More

We were not that taken with it. The food was good, but not great. The service was quite good. The dining room was nice enough. But we have only been there once, so the restaurant may be better than it struck us at the time.

Dinner for three. Large menu, lots of choices. Nice surrounding and good service. Food was very good, appropriate for the town of Stauntan. Ordered a bottle of wine. Prices for wine were steep and wine quality proved to be poor. We’ll come back again, as our daughter will be going to school here, but will order a glass of wine... More

When they first opened they had a 5 star antipasto salad to die for . Now my fav s are the spicy red calamari dish , the Caesar salad which used to be even better , their bread is good to dip in olive oil , their dessert are 3 to 5 star quality. I miss Joes in nyc. Joes... More

We were in Staunton to visit the Woodrow Wilson Home and Museum for the day and came across this adorable downtown section from a town dating back to 1747 or so. Driving around I spotted this lovely restaurant, Emilio's. So glad we chose it. I was a little skeptical when we saw several large parties, that service would be slow... More

It is so surprising to my wife and I to read any reviews of this restaurant that are less than highly laudatory that I am re-reviewing Emilio's! This remains one of our very favorite spots anywhere near us, and that's saying something given our proximity to Charlottesville and it's many fine options. We drive often to Emilio's in Staunton just... More
