After a leisurely drive down Skyline Drive, we arrived too late for lunch at Thornton River Grill so they directed us to their nearby sister restaurant, Cafe Indigo. What a great discovery! Not only do you get well fed, but you get to view an art community with some lovely things for sale. The food was very good, and menu... More

There was nothing particularly bad about our experience at the recently re-opened Cafe Indigo, but it the food was only average to good. The BLT is boldly named "Best BLT" and it may have been the best BLT I ate that day, but the bread was not home made and there was nothing special about this sandwich. I could easily... More

The Indigo Cafe could be so much more, because any improvement would be good. We went there for a birthday. It was a total flop. The birthday boy, it was his sixtieth, ordered the chicken. It came to the table raw and bloody. He sent it back. The waitress returned to say that the chef insisted that this is what... More

I wrote a view for this restaurant late in 2011 which I entitled "Very Promising". Early in 2012 Cafe Indigo closed its doors - very disappointing! Due to various staff and logistical problems the owners felt obliged to close - just when they had people waiting for a Spring and Summer re-visit. A good location and good quarters for another... Finding Cafe Indigo is the challenge! Locals know (sort of) where to look - but anyone coming from further away than 10 miles would have a hard time finding it - baffling even for the most efficient GPS. That said - find it if you want to enjoy ...... Good food in nice surroundings - freshly sourced and well prepared... More

As a local I have eaten here at many times and they never fail to surprise my palate. Everything is from local farms and totally fresh..the chef is very creative and does a great job featuring local meat, produce and dairy. Now that they have their liquor license you can enjoy some nice local wines with your meal

This new restaurant had some fits and starts getting open, but is worth the wait. The space itself is beautiful and relaxing, the servers friendly and enthusiastic (if sometimes not perfectly polished), and the food under the new chef is truly engaging and delicious. Very generous portions, and interesting updates to the menu on a regular basis. We plan to... More

Based on a July 2011 review in the Washington Post, my husband and I decided to try Cafe Indigo for lunch while spending the weekend in nearby Washington, VA. The Cafe is not in the main part of Sperryville's "downtown" and was a little hard to find, but I'm glad we did find it. The cafe is part of a... More

My wife and I along with two friends dined at Café Indigo last night and had a wonderful experience. From the greeting to the attentive wait staff to the beautifully prepared food, the meal all around was excellent. Three in our party wanted vegetarian dishes and the chef expertly prepared four delicious courses for all of us, accommodating the restrictions... More

Sperryville VA is about 2 hours from Washington DC, close to the Shenandoah national park and Old Rag, both popular destinations from DC. We have driven past the town many times but finally had the opportunity to stop there for a late lunch after hiking Old Rag. The lunch menu was short but enticing -- soups, salads, sandwiches -- and... More
