The food was still good, but our service was lacking. Drinks were slow to come. One steak was slightly overcooked. Our server never came back to ask how our food was, etc. We will go back and hopefully it will have improved. If not, we will go elsewhere.

The Thornton River Grille is across the street from Hopkins Ordinary Inn, where we spent three nights, and makes a perfect place to wind down after a day hiking in the Shenandoahs. food and service both excellent

We were in the area, saw this restaurant, and decided to stop in. There didn't seem to be a lot of cars outside, so we thought that it wouldn't be crowded. What we didn't realize was that the entrance is in the back of the building, and there was more parking back there that we couldn't see. (Psyched us out!)... More

We stumbled int the grille after hiking in the Shenandoah. we were pleasantly surprised by the wonderful atmosphere and fantastic food. We now eat there several times a year and I always look forward to my next visit. The food never disappoints. Their steak is delicious. The atmosphere is just right for couples or families.

It had been many years since I had been to Thornton River Grill. I must say, it is a special place. The food was wonderful. Oyster stew, ribeye salad, & delicious wine. I had no idea how nice the market was connected to the restaurant. I can't wait to stop in & get fresh seafood, produce, & great wine. I... More

Was recommended by the owner of the B&B we were staying at. We were pleasantly surprised by the menu selection. I had the fried goat cheese appetizer and it was very good. My wife had the Tuna special for dinner and she loved it. I had the Duck and it was done just right. It was a little pricey but... More

We stopped by looking for a "grille" what we found was an over-priced restaurant. It is nicely done, clean, and in the middle of nowhere with city prices. So if you are from away and on your way from the city to the Skyline Drive or a local winery, you might find it's almost country cute and the prices are... More

I stopped by here today after taking my elderly 91 year old friend for a drive to Skyline Drive from Manassas to get him out on this beautiful Veterans's day. He is a Veteran who received a Purple Heart in World War II. He is very proud of his service to his country. Many patrons in the restaurant stopped at... More

My family and I have often passed by this restaurant and decided to finally give it a try on one of the last sultry summer evenings in September. What a pleasant surprise! Despite the fact that it was a hot evening, we opted to eat on the roof deck, where it was surprisingly comfortable. Our waitress was attentive, the food was... More

This was a repeat visit and just as we remembered it, good food and good service. Great burger and don't miss the attached store. They sell the hot sauce among other things.
