We found this restaurant recommended when driving through Smithfield to do some shopping and figured we'd give it a go. The room we sat in was kind of fun, apparently a renovated pool room, with nice old wooden floors and that "Grandma's house" smell. The tables were nothing special and the chairs looked horribly uncomfortable but ended up being okay...... More

My husband and I used to love the Grille. It does have good food, but service was bad the last two times we went to eat at this restaurant. The last time, it took 40 minutes before my simple grilled cheese sandwich and soup came to my table. My friend and I both ordered this. Our sandwich was nearly cold... More

I had grown weary of the Grille over the past year or so. Apparently, due to the low patronage in the dining room, so had others. Recently, I had heard that there is a new head guy in the kitchen. I believe it. The steaks are more tender. Before, an angus ribeye was as tough as a regular cow. Now,... More

This photo is not the correct photo for the place. This picture is actually a photo of The Taste of Smithfield in downtown Smithfield. This main image for The Grille needs to be changed.

After reading the reviews, I decided to give this place a try Saturday night. For starters all the handicapped spaces were taken by cars bearing no handicap windshield card or license plate. A sign at the front door indicated I should seat myself. I should have known better when I saw that sign but I entered and seated myself in... More

Upon dining for my first visit since it became The Grille, under the ownership of Mike and Paul, the interior hadn't been changed much except that the two outer rooms had been swapped. What once had pool tables is now the main dining room, which was a welcome change since the restrooms are mere feet away. The menu has been... More

Part of the place is a dining room with mural on wall of the String. Lots of thunderbird car pics on wall as this used to be called Thunderbird Grill. The other half is a bar. That side was busy. We have gone there several times and have enjoyed the food. Window sills could be cleaner. Service is fine. Prices... More

We dine there frequently for dinner, almost never for lunch. That we keep coming back says something regardless of what else one may wish to infer from this review. One of the draws for us at "The Grille" is the Friday night prime rib. Over the years, we have noted that it has varied from so-so to very good, and... More

Stopped by here Sunday for lunch. I guess it's more of a country type bar with pool tables, etc., but they have a dining room with a buffet. The buffet offered an excellent tasting of good old southern foods, including country ham biscuits (home made), fried chicken, beef brisket, collards, barbecue, butter beans, salad and so forth. Everything was fresh... More

This place is now called the Thunderbird Bar and Grill. Sadly the place has gone way down hill and the food is mediocre at best. I had the crab cake dinner but the filler was so overpowering that you could barely taste any crab. My daughter ordered the salmon filet that resembled a frozen Mrs Paul's entree and it was... More
