Have you ever heard of a bakery that doesn't serve doughnuts? This one doesn't, it should be called a muffin store. The coffee was watery and not tasty. On the plus side, my apple turnover was very good

I will be honest, considering this a "Gourmet Bakery and Cafe" is quite the stretch in my opinion. It is an old building which is not a problem at all but the condition of the interior is far from being considered classy and I will use the term clean with a great degree of reservation. When we walked in we... More

I think this would be a fine lunch experience but don't go for dinner. We made reservations for 7 on a Saturday night and there was only one other table taken. They were mopping the floor around us by 7:30! Our waitress was no help with menu choices. She just didn't care. The food was average. We chose the green... More

We occasion the Bakery for dinner a couple of times per year. The other weekend, we arrived to find the place empty. Someone else's loss is our gain. For not the first time, we tried the Porchetta which is a thick piece of slow roasted pork that looks like pork prime rib. It is very tender and tasty, well marbled,... More

We enjoy our meals here often. The staff is very knowledgable of the menu items, and do a wonderful job of suggesting items if asked. The chef is one of the best in the Tidewater area of Virginia.

One of the antique shop owners told us that the best chef was at the bakery, but that it was almost a secret. We went there for dinner and it was excellent. The food and service were top notch even though it is a very small dining room - maybe 6-7 tables.

I have enjoyed this treasure for several years- and the food and atmosphere are a welcome change to the ordinary "corporate offerings" of fast food world. This small Historic town has many surprising offerings- but the Gourmet Bakery & Cafe is a special treat. Love their "Brunswick Stew" made with tender pieces of chicken, blend of succatash, tomatoes, potatoes &... More

The Piggly Wiggly VA Ham Sandwich is fantastic! Try the desserts in the refrigerator cases. The Tiramisu is incredible! The service was a little slow, but worth the wait! Pick-up some scones and muffins for breakfast the next day. Highly recommend it!

Had breakfast and dessert one afternoon. For a simple breakfast, it was amazing.... Grilled toast made from their house send sourdough was the ultimate. Their desserts are heavenly!

We had a great lunch here. The menu has an extensive selection of unique sandwiches. I had a classic Ruben. It was a substantial sandwich. Everyone in our group was pleased with their choices. The homemade desserts were fantastic and served in large portions. We took home freshly baked muffins for the next morning's breakfast and enjoyed them very much.
