I actually live in Salem, VA ... and pass this place quite often ... emphasis on the word PASS ... I do not stop anymore because the handful of times I've been there (less than 5 times), the owner is, what I'd like to say, COLDLY POLITE and the people that work there look scared to death to carry on... Food is very good. They have good salads, sandwiches, pizza, and Italian specialty dishes. Very good.

Went about 3 PM on a Sunday afternoon and they had a buffet. Not sure Italian food can linger on a buffet and really be at its best. The salad bar was OK, iceberg lettuce, olives, cucumbers, a few other things, sort of meager. The buffet had wings (they were really good) husband had the meatballs and spaghetti twice, said... More

We were suggested this restaurant by the hotel staff where we were staying. They were right...very very good food and pleasant staff. Will definitely eat here again when on our way to Florida.

We ordered take out, my husband ordered the steak Stromboli it was so greasy he could not eat it. I ordered the chicken Mediterranean salad it had one tomato one mushroom, no carrots or cucumbers and no red cabbage, just a bunch of lettuce. We also ordered from the menu line, but when we payed was much higher. I know... More

Place seemed fairly busy, staff was nice, but food was far from what I would call good Italian. Ordered the veal marsala, a basic easily prepared dish any Italian place should be able to produce. What I got was some chewy slices of veal in a sweetish gravy substance. The Italian bread was a soft spongy white bread cut into... More

Our daughter goes to Roanoke College and we wanted to take her for some good food off-campus. Our hotel told us about Mama Maria's and we loved it there! I can't eat gluten so pasta was out of the question, or so I thought. They do have gluten-free pasta. I got the hot antipasta for my meal. It had so... More

We stopped by for a late evening (around (9 pm) dinner. The place has a nice calm atmosphere. The waitress was very sweet and attentive. The pizza was delicious, with a crispy crust and fresh tomato and mushroom toppings. We were too full to try the gelato, but will do so next time.

A few years ago while in Salem, VA, we stopped at what I consider to be the best Italian restaurant EVER! We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived, though late, in Salem and could go to the new restaurant they had opened - Franklin St. I have to say it was a great environment! The restaurant says it closes at... More

We ate here with family members who live in the area. The Menu had so many good selections. Same for the wine menu. The food was good, the wine very good, and the service excellent. Prices were very reasonable.
