Abuelos is one of my favorite places to eat Mexican in the Roanoke area. It is one of the few restaurants around that remains consistently good after years of visits. Their outdoor patio can't be beat in the summer/fall (especially during happy hour discounts). Have never had a bad meal here. The fajitas are great. The stuffed chicken medallions are... More

We ate here on a Friday night after a long day of driving. We expected a 15-20 minute wait but were seated after only about five. Our server brought us chips with three kinds of salsa: a standard tomato, a smoked chipotle salsa (spicy), and a green tomatillo and pineapple salsa (sweet). All were good, but we both liked the... I have eaten at Abuelo's several times- good food, with more variety than some Mexican restaurants. Ambience is upscale. Good Margaritas. Excellent service. Recommended.

A great place to eat with excellent service, albeit the food is a bit pricey. Portion sizes are average and enough to eat.

My husband and I stopped here for dinner after a long day of driving, based on other trip advisor reviews. The food was average. I had the shrimp tacos and the serving size was adequate but not swimming in shrimp. My husband had the pork burrito and says it was delicious, but not the best Mexican food he has ever... More

My husband and I moved here from San Diego and we're Mexican food snobs as a result... there are very few places on this side of the US we consider actual Mexican food. Usually it's unseasoned chicken, tomato sauce and God forbid... ranch dressing served with chips. Abuelo's is our second favorite place for Mexican food, although we often want... More

The parking lot aside (shared with the mall and sometimes hectic), this place is great. The food is good. The staff are always pleasant. If we have to be in the mall area, this is our pick.

We were seated right away in a booth in the bar area. There also is a cool central room that looks like a little village. The server brought chips and a trio of salsas, explained what each was, and suggested combinations. All were good, although we preferred the spicier ones over the sweeter salsa. Our meal was served fairly quickly.... More

We always eat at Abeulo's at least twice in the five days we're in the area. First night I had the Chile Rellenos and they were awesome but last night I had the juarez which is four different items; taco, tamale, enchilada and something else. It was very good but I had a headache and was nauseous later so I... More

We are vegan and let our waitress know, asking for some recommendations. She was extremely helpful and probably one of the most competent, thoughtful servers we've ever had. They gave three differs kinds of salsas at the table which is a nice change from the usual one choice. Our veggie fajitas were excellent - overflowing with fresh vegetables, cilantro rice,... More
