Most affordable breakfast in Virginia

This small diner - about 8 seats at the counter - has a limited menu but good comfort food. I was able to get sausage gravy on toast and coffee for less than $4! The kids love it.

What can I say, been eating here for over 40 years and the food and chili are the same as in the 70's. Just brought back a gallon of the stuff to NJ last weekend.

While I no longer live in Roanoke I can think of at least a dozen friends that also say they eat at the tavern within 12 hours of returning to the noke. Of course it's a cheesy and a bowl with and maybe a couple dogs all the way walkin. Go enjoy some live music at martins around the corner... More

Everyone should try Texas Tavern at least once. It’s one of those “one of a kind” type places. Been there 85 years, with very few changes to anything: menu, building, and fixtures. It is always open. Twenty-four hours per day; seven days a week. Texas Tavern is a Roanoke institution. It doesn’t serve gourmet food, it doesn’t have impeccable service,... More

This place is awesome. it's literally a little old diner set in the 30's (it opened in 1930). The food there was very good. I tried their Cheesy Western (which they're very well-known for). It's literally just a burger with an egg, cheese, some onions (I think) and some other toppings that escape my mind. It was fantastic! they're also... More

Oh my gosh! This tiny little hole in the wall was so good that we went back for a second time (on our 3 day weekend vacation) Their hotdogs are good and they have phenomenal home made chili. Their cheeseburgers were my favorite, all the way was with pickle, onion and relish. I have never been a relish fan but... More

The Texas Tavern is a small hot dog joint downtown that has lots of entertainment value and decent, cheap food. The Texas Weiner (hot dog with mustard, onion and chili sauce) is good (but not as good as Falls View in Clifton, NJ, our favorite place for Texas Weiners).) Hamburger was also OK, but they did not automatically put chili... More

There are very few places like this left in america. It's more about the ambiance than the food. I had a breakfast sandwich and if was good. I heard the burger is really good.

I enjoyed the small burger, very small, therefore cheap price. Also enjoyed the Chili. This small establishment has great service and a very local feel in the middle of a medium sized city. I would recommend to anyone who likes to try burgers and chili. Open 24/7. It has a small bar to eat, however no "sitting" otherwise. No side... More
