On Feb. 13Th, 1930 during the height of the great depression, I.N. "Nick" Bullington opened the 10 stool Texas Tavern and began serving its famous bowls of chile, hamburgers, hotdogs, and cheesy westerns. With a no frills atmosphere and the motto "Give the customer a fair shake" the Texas Tavern has become a landmark and a rite of passage for many locals and visitors alike. Known as "Roanoke's Millionaires Club", it is still run by the same family, now in its 4th generation of ownership.

My wife and I love having a late night dinner at TT. I always get a cheesy western and a bowl with. They are my favorites. My wife always gets three burgers and never asks for ketchup. She does get a sissy stick for her drink, but also never asks for fries to go with her burgers. This place is... More

I ordered two burgers and the guy stuck his hand in the mustard and then touched my burger then I asked if he could wash his hands and get me a fresh burger because I don't like mustard and he said I am too good to wash my hands and you pay for every burger I through away

After reading the reviews, my husband and I decided to give this place a try. Our expectations were not high. It is not a bad place to eat. The food is average. I did enjoy my 'cheesy with', which is a small cheeseburger with a fried egg on top. The chili was bland, but nothing onions, crackers, and salt can't... More

I'm used to eating at the Texas Inn in Lynchburg, so I knew what to expect going into the Texas Tavern. Only surprise was that the cheesy westerns here have pickles on them. Other than that, everything was what I've come to expect: small diner, cheap food, good service, and open 24 hours. The grease is bound to chop a... More

If you go with a sense of humor, you will have a better time. As a restaurant, this place delivers low quality at low prices, in a very small and uninviting space. But, as an institution, this place should be on the "you haven't experienced Roanoke unless you have eaten here" list. Really, where else can you eat some history... More

I've had this place on my bucket list for a few years. I drove out of my way to stop in for a late "second" lunch of the day as I was not sure when I'd be back thru Roanoke again. The ambience is incomparable. The prices are a good deal. I had to have the Cheesy Western. I was... More

We ate here as part of the Roanoke food tour. We had a cheesy Western, a.k.a. "Cheesy". My fiancé really liked the bread and butter relish. Definitely a greasu spoon dive worth stopping at after a night out....I don't know if I would wait in line though.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the world. TT, as the locals often refer to it, is a dinosaur in the food industry, but who wouldn't love to see a dinosaur? It's not fancy, it's not healthy, it is tiny and outdated. It's like stepping back in the history of American fast food, to a time before all... More
