Maybe it is not a fare comparison. But a restaurant called New Yorker Deli begs to be compared with real delicatessens in New York. The comparison does not go very far beyond the name. Having said that, I can't think of a better place in Roanoke to get an average tasting pastrami sandwich.

Usually enjoy a sandwich here. Not today. Ordered a "Sailor Sandwich." No knockwurst and sandwich served barely warm. If this is the new norm, then we would be back.

My husband and I spent the day shopping in Roanoke and I asked him if he'd like to try an amazing deli for lunch....my treat. I used to eat at the New Yorker many years ago with my mom and I remembered the good being wonderful. We sat down and gave out drink order to our server, it was then,... More

I have been going to the New Yorker in Roanoke since I was a kid, and now that I live in another town, I make special trips to either dine in or take out. Their "Submarine" is the most delicious mix of meats, onions, and hot peppers. The hot turkey sandwich is awesome as well. There's no skimping on meats... More

My family and I LOVE this place. I can honestly say we have never had a bad experience. Last visit was even better (thanks to our wonderful server, DeeDee). I love the kosher klub... All the subs/sandwiches have a good amount of meat on them and are always perfect. I can't rave enough about this place. Great food, great service,... More

Although I eat there a few times a month the quality is only fair. Sometimes it's not fair to judge something over 40 years but in this case I have to say I am disappointed in the deterioration during that time. The is puffy on the subs. The coleslaw is not as creamy. It's still good but others have seized... More

My husband LOVES these subs. We go to The New Yorker every time we are in Roanoke. It is a special treat. This place has been around for a long time and still only accepts cash ... but it is always packed and the sandwiches are very large and very tasty. A nice change from the many chain restaurants ...

The ambiance is that this place has not changed in 30 years...I even think the waitresses are the same! But why should they change..you can get one of the best sandwiches you have ever eaten for six dollars or less. My wife and I split a heated Italian sub and it is plenty for both of us. We used to... I have been going to the New Yorker forever...and I love it. Great variety of subs and don't forget the cheese cake. Its so good. You can't go wrong checking this place out. I highly recommend it.. You don't stay in business as long as they have, if you are producing quality food with a unique taste.!!
