Four of us went to dinner at Local Roots on Friday night. We did have reservations and we seated immediately. Although 3 of us had good meals, my meal was not very good. I had the chicken which was supposed to be served with spaetzle, carrots and snap peas. Here is what I was served; two small carrots, no snap... More

I honestly did not expect a restaurant of this quality in a town like Roanoke. I expected more grill, meat, burgers but this was high class cuisine.

There are very few restaurants I've been too--and I've been to highly rated joints in Spain, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Canada, Mexico, and countless eateries in the Caribbean and South America--that offer such high quality fare as Local Roots. My twelve-year-old daughter, who, believe it or not, is a connoisseur of steak--she absolutely deplores steaks brought to her cooked even slightly... More

The menu isn't that extensive at Local Roots, which gave me some pause. However, everything we ordered from the summer squash bisque to the cheese plate to my daughter's grilled cheese sandwich was OUTSTANDING. You MUST eat here!

So, THAT'S what ground beef is supposed to taste like! Local maple bacon with a spicy sauce and homemade chips. Perfect size and awesome taste. Be careful of the ginger beer, it's pretty gingery!

I love the ambiance here- lots of wood and special feeling seating. We had a great server who recommended a locally produced bottle of wine. It was a little pricey but by far the best Virginian wine we've tasted- a cab franc -sorry can't remember the name of the bottle. We had a cheese plate that was very well thought... More

Went to Local Roots during our recent visit to Roanoke. Envinroment and atmosphere was fresh and modern. Drinks and beer selection was good. Good variety of food items and food was good. Service was average at best and had a long wait time between service providings. Dessert was the least desirble. Would definitely try again.

My wife and I stopped here for Sunday brunch. We each had the buttermilk biscuit with pork belly, cheddar, pickles, and home fries and had a flourless chocolate cake for dessert. We love the farm to table movement and knew it would be delicious, but we were still surprised at how great this locally sourced cuisine really was. HIGHLY recommend,... More

We used the celebration of our 43rd wedding anniversary to dine at Local Roots. If you are ever in Roanoke, VA you must go here. We went for dinner. The staff was very friendly and willing to take time to answer the questions we had about many of their menu offerings. And the menu options are fresh, local and full... More

One of the best overall dining experiences I've ever had ... hands down. The staff is friendly and attentive. The food is out of this world. You can actually taste the freshness. The apple vinaigrette dressing topped the salad perfectly. That was complimented nicely by the pork shoulder in linguinii that melted in your mouth. If I had more time... More
