The bartender at our hotel rattled off the typical recommendations-chains mainly, so I looked around online for something more adventurous and we settled on Local Roots. And we're happy we searched for something out of the norm. The meals are all the product of local produce selections and some very nice recipes, with excellent presentation. The three in our party... Sometimes the food is good, sometimes it's not. Sometimes you get friendly service, sometimes you don't. Sometimes you get fresh food, sometimes you don't. It's not worth the risk anymore.

We love Local Roots, and just finished with their "Sunday Supper", a concept that I would normally embrace, but in this case, or perhaps on this particular Sunday, the execution was poor. We came in blindly expecting the normal menu, but instead were given a small menu with a choice of three entrees and three sides. Now, the sides were... More

Dear Cody M. First of all thank you for taking the time to write a review of your recent experience at Local Roots and for being a supporter of what we do. Of course, I am distressed that you had a less then optimal experience. Your input is valued and taken to heart. As you found out Sunday evening is... More

I'm always a little leery of group think over the hot dining concept du-jour, so although I do support the local concept (I am a farmer's market regular), I also expect good execution for the money I'm paying, not just 'it's local so it must be good' hype. The pork ragu was really, really good. My wife's trout was good... More

While visiting Roanoke this summer (we do so frequently), we were pleased to discover Local Roots in Grandin. Our meal and server (Chad) were both exceptional. Trout was expertly prepared and artistically presented. The gnocchi were ethereal and the summer vegetable salad was delicious. Each vegetable element carried its own flavor yet all worked together harmoniously. The citrus vinaigrette on... More

Was looking for a place for lunch while visiting Roanoke. Decided to give this place a try - good choice. In between lunch and dinner the hot food line is down so they offered us soup and salad. We each had a lovely green salad with a nice, light, but tasty dressing and a cup of chilled zucchini soup. Just... More

Four of us went to dinner at Local Roots on Friday night. We did have reservations and we seated immediately. Although 3 of us had good meals, my meal was not very good. I had the chicken which was supposed to be served with spaetzle, carrots and snap peas. Here is what I was served; two small carrots, no snap... More

I honestly did not expect a restaurant of this quality in a town like Roanoke. I expected more grill, meat, burgers but this was high class cuisine.

There are very few restaurants I've been too--and I've been to highly rated joints in Spain, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Canada, Mexico, and countless eateries in the Caribbean and South America--that offer such high quality fare as Local Roots. My twelve-year-old daughter, who, believe it or not, is a connoisseur of steak--she absolutely deplores steaks brought to her cooked even slightly... More
