always good food

This is a favorite of ours in Roanoke. My husband loves their mussels and thinks theirs are the best in town. We have never been disappointed in any of their dishes but a heads up would be desserts are quite small for the money asked so I would skip that.

Very tasty and well prepared food with local ingredients. Priced very reasonably for a three course meal. Catfish was the best ever...Wine selection is superb as well as the service. Fun to people watch in the Grandin Village too or take in a movie at the one and only Grandin Theater. Highly recommended for lunch or dinner!!

Being newer to Roanoke, we were really excited to try this quaint little place in Grandin that everyone seemed to celebrate. Sadly, despite our best efforts to make the most of it, it was a let-down. Out of three meals, the meat was tasty in two but the sides only impressed in one dish. The third dish was overpriced for... More

Tasty dishes made from locally-sourced food was about what was expected...and the price exceeded what I expected for the most part--pretty darn expensive. I'll have to say that it is difficult for me to eat out anywhere due to my highly restricted diet for health reasons: I eat a mostly vegan diet but no (or very small quantity) of any... More

Every time my husband and I manage to get a date night out, we go back and forth about where to go. Maybe we should try someplace different. Maybe we should stick with Local Roots. Every time we try the former, we're disappointed with our decision, but every time we go to Local Roots, we are nothing but pleased, satisfied... More

After church on Sunday, my wife and I (along with 2 adult children and one of their friends) had brunch at Local Roots. The bowl of grits (topped with fried eggs, bacon and greens) was amazing. The Brioche French Toast was amazing and the Eggs Benedict (my favorite breakfast) was probably the best I have ever had. Perfectly poached eggs... More

We were on a road trip and stopped in Roanoke for the night. The restaurant is located in a little urban bubble of sophistication. Most of the items on the menu come from nearby farms and vineyards. I started the meal with a a very fresh and crisp vegetable salad and then had the most unbelievably fresh trout well prepared... More

Met my son for lunch today and I was the first one in the restaurant. Melissa met me as I walked in and I immediately felt like family. Local Roots is in a very cute part of town with many small independent shops all around, if we had more time we would have walked the whole Grandin Village area. Melissa... More

My granddaughter wanted to take me out for a special birthday dinner and we chose Local Roots in nearby Grandin Village area. This was my first visit to the restaurant and it lived up to all the wonderful things I heard about it. The food is from local suppliers so the menu depends on what is available. I had lamb... More

Great spot, friendly service, interesting combinations of fresh locally sourced foods that were delicious and unique, not just for the sake of being unique, but truly flavorful combinations. I will go back here again any time I may be in Roanoke.
