In the tradition of Italy's trattorias, the sight, sounds and aromas of authentic Italian cuisine are recreated fresh everyday at Il Fornaio. Literally "the baker" in Italian, Il Fornaio offers wood-fired rotisserie and grilled meats, poultry and game; housemade and imported pastas; pizzas from a wood burning oven; fresh salads and housemade soups; antipasti and a wide variety of desserts made daily from scratch. The first two weeks of each month a special menu from a different region of Italy is featured as part of Festa Regionale.

Nice meal with John Kerry look alike as our waiter...

We had a nice meal with family and our waiter sounded and looked quite a bit like Secretary Kerry...maybe he has a side job, in Reston...seemed fairly busy, but overall attentive...would recommend the butternut squash ravioli...and the Barolo...

I think people attend the brunch just for the ambience. Everyone (almost) ordered pizza, which was potentially cheaper than most other menu items. Our orders, while somewhat pricey, was very ordinary and lacked taste. Overall, quite dissapointed. The place was not crowded.

Dined here this past weekend for brunch. I have never been here before, but met some friends and was amazed at the wonderful service and the delightful waffle with bananas, strawberries and whipped cream. And no, you can't make this at home, it was delish!

Really tried to be patient here - the restaurant is the nearest one to the apartment I use in Reston. I've eaten here with colleagues and alone and it has been consistently bad value for money. $65 for dinner for one with a glass of wine, starter and main course ought to be something very good and it simply is... Went with friends after a trip to italy. We had a lovely server who recommended a delicious wine to go with our meal. They have a good gluten free menu for those in need. The cannelloni is out of this world. Made with chicken, mushrooms, and a delicious bechamel. Don't forget to try the breadsticks. Yummy.

We live in the neighborhood and over the years have enjoyed Il Fornaio, practically flawless every time we went. Frankly, I was concerned when I heard the new chef and some management was coming over from PassionFish, which is highly overrated in my book. My fears were well-placed. We had a group of 12 for my birthday. While many of... More

A delightful first visit to Il Fornaio for a Ladies' lunch. Great variety on the menu. We chose the soup special as a starter: portobello mushroom soup with Yukon gold potatoes was tasty. It was served chunky style with broth; I expected it would be puréed to a potage consistency with some portobello slices as garnish. The red and gold... More

The cadence and rhythm of a good dining experience is completely lost on the staff here. The 'service' was entirely a perfunctory, check-the-box exercise. They interrupted my husband and I mid-sentence, multiple times, and just stood there loudly repeating themselves like robots when it was completely obvious that they should maybe come back in a few minutes. Very annoying. The... More

A comfortable and convenient environment for drinks and appetizers, lunch and dinner too. Mostly northern Italian and not the American Italian variety. I've been there several times, not because of lack of restaurants in Reston Town Center, but because it's comfortable with good food at a mostly affordable price. Go and enjoy. I know it won't be your last time... More

Dinner at Il Fornaio was the highlight of my dining during my trip to Reston. The food was excellent, and the service was exceptional. The staff is very attentive and accommodating. Our group ordered antipasto (delicious, and generous portions), and I enjoyed the Bolognese, which was excellent. The tiramisu for dessert should not be missed!
