This was our second visit to Portsmouth's Bier Garden restaurant, and our second positive experience. If you enjoy beer this is a place you want to visit. There is an extensive beer list including draft and bottled beers...mainly of the German and European variety. We ordered the goulash soup (excellent), the lunch sausage sandwich with red cabbage and the German... More

Four of us ate here on a Saturday night. We had 7 pm reservations and I am glad we did - it was BUSY. We were seated immediately in a patio area, which had plastic windows and heaters, so it was comfortable. Our server was excellent - quick; accurate with our orders; friendly and with a great sense of humor.... More

Have been several times and never disappointed. The food is real German and done just right. The beer selection is outstanding and extensive. I will say that to expect food service to be fast will not happen, so just relax and enjoy a glass of beer from their extensive selection.

Great restaurant in small community of Portsmouth, VA. Called Old Town. Run by a german couple. Excellent german food. Impressive german beer selections. I know it sounds crazy but I love the fried bologna on pretzel roll with a beer. It really is quite tasty.

I visited with my sister and brother in law and husband on a warm, sunny day. We selected the outdoor seating to take advantage. If you are a fan of beer, considering checking this place out. They have an extensive beer menu with many selections of draft and bottle beer. Some get quite pricey. If you have a particular favorite... More

Beer...of course but how can you run out of one of your specialty beers after the first glass? Lots of other choices. Lentil soup was good but before we could finish sharing the bowl, the entrees came to the table. Were they trying to get rid of us? Wiener Schnitzel was tasty with a very nicely seasoned sauce. German potato... More

The selection of Beer is off the charts and the food is hearty and delicious. The name is spelled wrong on Trip Advisor, it should be Bier Garden. The restaurant is family owned and operated.

It's hard to find a good German restaurant, but in Portsmouth, you're in luck! I had one of the best pork chops with saurkraut I've ever had outside of Germany. And the beer choices were incredible - page after page after page of selections. We ate in the enclosed porch area which added to the European charm. The waitress was... More

The Bier Garden in Olde Towne Portsmouth is a gem. We've been there twice in the last two weeks and had tasty German food with great service. Rouladen, Pork Roast and the Bolagne sandwich were all delicious and so was the variety of beers we tried. Don't' forget the cheesecake, apple strudel and key lime/raspberry mini cheesecake. Mmmmm!

Not a beer person, but love German food. The sauces and potatos were authentic. Love the desserts too! The atmosphere is very nice on a fall or spring day....
