Great German food and Beer

We did not get a chance to visit this trip, but last year we enjoyed a dinner at the Bier Garden. Great selection of dinners and beers. Everyone got something different and we shared. Enjoyed all the meals, but my favorite was Jagerschnitzel.

Their selection of beer is impressive, but not reliable. I used to go there quite a bit when I first moved to the area. The selection has not changed, but some beers seem to always be missing even though their on the menu. It's also become more of a hassle to go there with parking and the wait times (to... More

As we were back in Norfolk/Portsmouth for the holidays, we decided to give the Bier Garden another visit. We were not disappointed. Nice place, nice service...fantastic beer selection, and very good German food selections. This time we brought the grandkids to see what they thought. No problem...one went for the wiener sandwich while the other had the grilled cheese. For... More

Went around 7:30, easy to find parking, the outdoor seating was pleasant. Great menu and excellent beer selection. Wait staff super friendly. In town for pleasure, very glad we found The Bier Garden!

My wife and I were a little Leary going to a German restaurant due to bad experiences in the past. However, The food at this place was GREAT! Very flavorful and different. The sauerkraut was fabulous and the pork chops were cooked perfectly. The spatzle was superb, with the cheese. The gravy was good too, but come on...cheese rules! There... More

Just wish the customer service was better. Beer selection is amazing. Food Great. We have called ahead several times, only to be given a back table on the porch, once waiting 25 minutes to be aknowledged, and there were only 6 other tables being served at the time. Another time the server admitted to ordering the wrong entree, and removed... More

Based on staff recommendation I had the Reuben Sandwich. It was reasonably priced and came with a side. I got red cabbage - tasty. The sandwich was huge in width, double the size of a normal loaf of rye, the corned beef was good but I could not identify the sauerkraut or Swiss cheese. I've had better at non-German restaurants.... More

We absolutely loved everything we ordered. The menu is very well written and explains the items to a non-German customer base in an understandable way. Our server, Tiffany, was fantastic. We witnessed her handling a more difficult customer with ease and professionalism. If it wasn't such a long trip, they would know us by name quickly!

I had fun here, bier was at a great temperature, nice selection, (Oktober vest) was best. I had a selection plate of sausages, potatoes salad, breads, and a very nice pretzel. Fun place, great staff and easy walk to my hotel.
