Good food, good time

We had a great dinner here. I had the knackwurst and German potato salad. It was delicious. The service was good, friendly waitress. The beer list is extensive. Being a Coors beer drinker, the list was a little overwhelming. I had a nice German wheat beer in Ireland last year but couldn't... read more

Good taste of popular German dishes. I was a little disappointed with the thin mushroom gravy with mild seasoning. I'm guessing it came from a can. My jagerschnitzel was overcooked on one side and nearly raw on the other. Since Hampton Roads has so little German dining, it is hard to compare the seasonings, etc but I was stationed in... More

My fiancé and our friend were very excited to visit the Bier Garden because of the great reviews online. We were looking forward to finding a great beer haus similar to the one in our hometown. Sadly, this restaurant did not meet our needs at all. The waitress, Tiffany, was simply mean. She was more than rude, and acted as... More

Ah this was such good German food. They serve a lot of native dishes and have a HUGE bier list. They run out of pretzel by the evening though, if its been a busy day.

Stopped here for lunch on our trip North. attractive garden entrance, offering outside dining. interesting interior decor. Brick walls, low ceiling, nicely decorated, beer pub atmosphere. Huge selection of German Beer and German food. Good service and fair prices. Neat location in Old Town Portsmouth!

Beautiful patios and interesting inside. Excellent food (my friend says the teawurst sandwich is better than any she had in Germany), I love both the bratwurst and snitzel bites. Lovely, helpful, efficient staff. Very family friendly (posts signs that they are breast feeding friendly and has a great baby changing station).

Go anywhere in the country and the toughest cuisine to find in the southeast is German. That's a shame because it's one of the most flavorful and adventurous foods in Europe. The good news is that located in Portsmouth Virginia is one of the best and most authentic German restaurants on the East Coast. The Bier Garden is located on... More

Amongst the best sandwiches I've ever had. The Rest of the menu is pretty damn good too, but that Schnitzel Rueben is just fantastic. My wife always goes for the German Bologna Sandwich which is also very good. They also have a FANTASTIC beer list! Love sitting outside sipping a good German Bier!

Beautiful restaurant, definitely makes me homesick. Delicious freshly prepared food. Great beer. I ordered a pretzel as an appetizer. Main course was Jägerschnitzel mit Kartoffelsalat und Spaetzle. Drink of choice was a Radler. Everything tasted great. I will say I was not used to the light colored sauce and few mushrooms for the schnitzel, but it made up in flavor.... More

Our business group often visits the Bier Garden and is never disappointed. The knowledgeable staff guided us through the extensive beer menu. The German food was authentic and fantastic, as always.
